Thoughts on Life

Never thought I’d think this way
thoughts filling my head today
of death and its eventuality
in all its cursed finality

living forever might be more a curse
than its perceived heavenly blessing
at the dawn of life it was slower
and now it’s coming forward faster

digging my heels in on death
avoiding the spectre with eternal grin
living awhile longer do I think I won
against death and hold coveted life

for death indeed mercy’s unknown
for it knows not the pain it inflict
or does it I wonder
it doesn’t offer any favour

people sobbing with grieve
bombs exploding others’ belly
to secure a place in heaven
so they say on telly

do they covet death then
for the unknown leap
a far fall into grace or worse
perhaps a fall into dark nothingness

but life yes, that is embraced
even killers know it’s worth
the last look of fear or horror
feeding their gibbering mind

An end, that’s death
could be the finality of a life
written in a book
the final period on the End.
