marauder
this is for the woman whose heart I’ve invaded
like a Robin Hood of seductive romance
with a key made of sorrow & poetry.
this is for the dream that we dare to dance in.
for the blushing moon; for the winking stars.
this is for your bountiful table, set under autumn’s
harvest. a stew of tender meat & savory vegetables,
in a lake of herbed gravy. freshly baked bread, butter
melting across each warm slice, like a river of sunlight.
carrot cake, crowned with cream cheese: sumptuous
heaven by way of spice & walnut.
this is a song for the women who hear its
plaintive melody, who weep for its sadness,
and believe it is their song.
this is for the water-colored sheets that cover our
audacity, as we cling & explore & sacrifice ourselves
to the consumptive fires of passion, until we are ash;
for the bed that rocks us, gentle as the sensual sea.
this is for the nights that pass too quickly. for the poems
they inspire. for the memories born of joy & tears.
this is for the wandering road that waits for me benignly.
the road that sings my name like a siren.
this is so that you know…

This is really beautiful, John. I particularly like the line "this is for the dream we dare to dance in." Courage is required for true exultation and joy. The courage of letting go...

If a poem has not ripped your soul to shreds, then you have not experienced true poetry....
This did exactly that! Amazing! Thank you!
"this is for the nights that pass too quickly. for the poems they inspire. for the memories born of joy & tears." - This part made me cry...

love the title and how its many implications are boldly and beautifully weaved into this dazzling tapestry!!!
love this:
"this is for the water-colored sheets that cover our
audacity, as we cling & explore & sacrifice ourselves
to the consumptive fires of passion, until we are ash"
and this:
"this is for the wandering road that waits for me benignly.
the road that sings my name like a siren" Spendid Ink Sir :)
