In-Laws

Escape from the critical eyes that focus all on you,
with nothing better than to emphasize an imaginary truth.
They put you up on stage to get a better view.
When you find a resting place, they begin to come unglued.

Take on their heartless diluted lies
and call them on their game.
When your challenge finds them all tongue tied
they will hide their heads in shame.

Putting on a phony face, gets old, even for them.
You get blamed and all they say is:
"You should try again"

They confide their ridicule of your being
in him, whom you have trusted.
Their only son looks on not seeing
when he should be disgusted.

What Christian people can live this way
hateful , stagnant yet crisp?
Age and upbringing are of no reassurance
when joining a family like this.

They welcomed me with open arms
and slowly exploded any flaws.
I was once naive until I figured them out
The worst in-laws are just a joke to me now.
