she conjures, like destiny
you can’t stop running.
if you do, you’ll go up in flames.
& you can’t stop drinking.
it’s the whiskey’s fire that will one day burn
her memory out of your skull, & her ashes
will drift on a carrion wind. when it happens,
you’ll be free, you can stop.
but you never get close to that final drink…
I remember that dangerous night,
moonlight leaking through lacy curtains, like madness.
a night when the moon put stars in her eyes,
& I fell into her deeply, all of her mystery.
she was annihilation; she was God’s sultry
weapon for the punishment of men.
I bit her lip when I kissed her, to taste her blood.
I gripped her ivory throat, to show her I could
strangle the life out of her with the force of my hand.
& she smiled, hoping that I would;
& she laughed, knowing that I could not.
maybe it was the desire to solicit a twisted, surreal
heaven, a castle in the air that love builds…
but there ain’t no heaven for sinners like us.

Many of your poems send me reminiscing of Spillane and Miller; they bite with grit. You're Sin City with a twist of the poet who's lived most of your poems; it shows. You're the Conjurer with your pen.. keep 'em coming John.

The kiss to taste her blood....hands around her throat...her wanting and knowing sound familiar to me....lol
Dark, twisted and erotic

Funny, the color of her top put me in mind of blood right away, then I read your bit lip line.
"she was annihilation; she was God’s sultry
weapon for the punishment of men."
She holds power in her vulnerability.
Beautiful lines, Feddeler, dark and delicious.

John, this recollection of an encounter still carries much impact, and it is beautifully presented. The third stanza is wonderful, in particular.

Ok you got me hooked on that first stanza, so much so that I become stuck on it, reading it over and over and then simply just wanting more...sigh..flowed over me, thru me...sigh..
