highway dreaming
I keep dreaming of desert highways
Places I knew as a child
In a land of drought and red dirt
Where every road led to adventure
I've no glass jars filled with money
No adventure fund plan
That I could guarantee
Wouldn't get spent on shoes
And impulse buys
Though the dusty open plains remind me of home
And our muted green bush makes me smile
At the discomfort the first settlers
Would have felt
Gazing out at this untamed land
So I keep dreaming of desert highways
And roads worthy of poetry
Destination unknown
