Sideway Smiles
Lost on a cobbled street
slick with moss
under a charcoal sky
unfamiliar sites and sounds
somewhere in the distance
a bell tolls
Paranoia sets in
thinking it rings for me
descending down darkened passages
forgotten in a maze
a sea of faces
smile sideways at me
I seek you out
in the fog
of the misty morn
though you're not to be found
I follow scraps of thoughts
left behind carelessly
wrapped around my mind
like a twisted knot
one I can't undo
I travel on
searching the empties
finding myself in a vacant place
so maddening is this journey
realizing all the streets
lead one way, all back to me
sojourning in a place of self discovery
retracing my steps
I find myself home
slick with moss
under a charcoal sky
unfamiliar sites and sounds
somewhere in the distance
a bell tolls
Paranoia sets in
thinking it rings for me
descending down darkened passages
forgotten in a maze
a sea of faces
smile sideways at me
I seek you out
in the fog
of the misty morn
though you're not to be found
I follow scraps of thoughts
left behind carelessly
wrapped around my mind
like a twisted knot
one I can't undo
I travel on
searching the empties
finding myself in a vacant place
so maddening is this journey
realizing all the streets
lead one way, all back to me
sojourning in a place of self discovery
retracing my steps
I find myself home

Crim,
Often the journey is seeking that which is right in front of us. But staying home and never searching will have you late to the party! ; ) Welcome home ; ) Enjoyed!

A lovely piece Crim..thoughtfully introspective.
I'd agree with my good Brother tornado..too often we don't know what we have till its gone for taking it for granted..its good to go through the stuff in the closet before you go looking for new. old favorites may have been forgotten for a time ;)

The journey of self discovery never ends.
I really liked the softness of this poem, although poignant, the flow was effortless, you've penned well Brenda :)
