Remember to forget
Letting go Is easy if you remember how it's done.
Turn around.
Then close your eyes.
Count slowly back to one.
4 steps behind you,
Then 3 paces to your left.
Remember to avoid,
The foxhole where she broke her leg.
An hour past the tree you stenciled with tattoos of forgotten love.
Then down the hill
where you both laid in the clouds.
Past that fork in the road
We decided to smash our phones, and run away from the world.
Then down the path
we first walked together.
where late nights in early summer,
And cold moons, in early June
Lit up the adventure we'd set out on.
Don't look back yet,
She's still at your heels.
On the other side
you'll come across,
An old familiar field.
Where you sat by yourself.
In the dark,
before the storm.
Looking up at the sky,
At all the stars,
And feeling warm.
Turn around.
Then close your eyes.
Count slowly back to one.
4 steps behind you,
Then 3 paces to your left.
Remember to avoid,
The foxhole where she broke her leg.
An hour past the tree you stenciled with tattoos of forgotten love.
