Everyday...........
......I die just a little
Cry a whole lot
as my time here whittles
away
Everyday
......my familiar
yet neglected anchors
holding my
life and times
eroding away
like the fabric of
my favorite, comfortable sweater
God only knows that I should have known better than
wax so abrasively
the threads of my life, unraveling
finding no solace in
what has been......
so quickly
time fleeting
every generation.....
.....the music is leaving me
now
and I die
just a little more
everyday....
Am I an anchor
for you to hold?
Am I the root
attaching your soul
to an earth dying?
Oh, let not the blood
rest upon my hands.....
Humanity living inside
this great lie
those that I love.....
....those that I cherish
admire
emulate
Idolize
landmarks
showing forth the way
giving to my life
that air of great expectation....
gone from me
I die just a little bit more
everyday......
"Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what you see
I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me....." Jackson Browne
Author's Note-(I fault my musical DU brother, Ted for this reflection this morning. Thank you for "saying what needed to be said" and keeping me from getting "hung up" Our landscape is changing so much beyond our familiar. All change is not good....yet we teach our eyes not to deflect and we don't protect that which is so precious......till it's gone. The world is a-changing and I am just an accidental traveler passing through this foreign land. Getting closer to my home.... also thanks to Jackson Browne for immortal words forever etched into our culture)
