My Dad-Entered In Hemi's Men Comp.
My old man was a crop dusting pilot
wore dirty cowboy boots
loved to chase the ladies
married to my ma
he didn't say much
but when he did
it was simple and to the point
wanting to grow up sophisticated
was embarrassed by my country name
Brenda Kay but was
the name chosen for me
by my dad
didn't dare call him
old man to his face
he had a tough as nails
side about him
scared the piss out of me
whenever he was in a rage
nervous laughter would take over
and I would bite my cheeks
to keep it under control
you didn't want to bring the devil
out of my pops
beat the skin off my hide when earned
loved county music, cars, the ladies
and the ladies loved him right back
hated lazy workers who would
come liquored up to the job site
make him insane
come home angry we would know to hide
I love my dad
he died doing what he loved
beat cancer
just to die in a car crash
on the way to work one day
didn't even get to say goodbye
here's to you pops
I've come to love country music
and hard working men
wore dirty cowboy boots
loved to chase the ladies
married to my ma
he didn't say much
but when he did
it was simple and to the point
wanting to grow up sophisticated
was embarrassed by my country name
Brenda Kay but was

While I'm still not big on country music, there is something about a country man that is oh,so sweet. The combination of raw passion and country manners is nearly irresistible.
Your father sounds like a hell of a man. Thank you for letting me get to know him.
