Mourning

A time of sadness, sorrow and heartache
a hard time to function or even just smile
bereavement brings tears of grief and loss
the gloom and anguish hang onto you a while
Sometimes shock takes over, along with disbelief
the reality so painful you do not want to believe
there is a physical ache, you feel you can't breathe
the devastation consumes you, your overtaken by grief

A time of anger, where you can't help but question why
wanting someone or something to blame for your misery
you feel a storm brewing in your soul, crushing your spirit
you lose a piece of yourself with every loss to a degree
Weeping becomes a daily event, languishing into despair
you try to remind yourself, they're in a better place
that you will be reunited again one day, when its your time
you can't help but wish to touch them, to look into their face

A time to remember all the happy memories you shared together
to be reminded just how precious life really is in reality
a time to be there for each other and try to deal with the loss
a time we reflect, deal with the thought of our own mortality
The pain of mourning last a lifetime, it just dulls with time
but never truly goes away, for a part of you is missing, lost
we push on, try to live our lives a little better, be kinder
try to live on for our loved ones, make them proud at any cost

A time to get passed the devastation and move on with life
to concentrate on all of the things that are still good
a time to fight back tears when you hear that "certain song"
instead rejoice in the memories that through time have withstood
You know things will never be the same, how could they ever
because a big piece of your heart died too on that fateful day
but you push on, cherish every single memory of your time shared
live life to the fullest, because you know it's what they'd say
