Goodnight my love
Goodnight my love all
the world lies sleeping
I am wake and for
sleep plead my case.
We are scattered
as only lovers can, minutes
pass slow, hours
more than days, days
must not to weeks
nor months extend.
Sleep the night my love
as once we did and shall
again and more;
my case again I plead,
hid beneath the pillow
where soon your breast
shall lie, the butterfly
its wings unfurled
slumbering in my hand;
as our eyelids close . . .
retreating time dispersed.
