Honey, There Is Something at the Corner of Your Eye!

Honey, there is something
at the corner of your eye,
your left eye; a small red blob,
but I can see it from here.
Don’t rub at it, dear,
please; it may get in and
trouble you a great deal;
maybe it’s salty, or has
vinegar, or something,
else unpleasant to your
delicate eye.
Let me come closer, and
I shall remove it for you.

Here, let me wet
my handkerchief a little.
There, done!
Ah! It’s but a sauce, my dear;
the baby may have put it there;
or you did it yourself while
serving us dinner.
Here, see it? So tiny, indeed;
but on your lovely skin
it is so big; on your pretty
face it is most conspicuous,
and ignobly incongruous.
Feels so good to remove it
for you. Oh, how so beautiful
it is to serve you, my love!

You wonder that my hands
still tremble when I touch you,
and my heart races so wildly,
and my stomach does all
the dancing, as if there were
sweet music sung inside me;
you wonder that my voice still
shakes when I call your name,
and my attention is most intense
when you address me, and when
I address you; and my eyes
seek only you even in a riotous
multitude, my mind at peace
knowing yours is at peace—
even after these years of marriage?
I know not what it is, my love,
this thing that makes me need you so;
it is a mystery; it is deep;
and it is about you;
but I must not name it:
for mystery is sweet
when it has no name.

Come, my darling,
would you love to dance tonight?
I would love to dance with you.
I shall play our favourite music.
What do you say, my love?
We shall?
Oh, so sweet of you! How so fond
of you to agree!
I am breathless! I may not speak
well for a while. Wait here, I shall go
start the music.
There, the music is playing!
May I take your hand in mine?
Ah! Step with me, my love.
I love the way you dance.

Do you feel my heartbeat
on your right when I hold you thus?
I feel yours, honey; I feel
the beating of your kind heart;
it beats within me on the right.
It means I have two hearts now.
It means I am whole; I am complete.
I am complete holding you thus.
You make me complete, my woman.
Oh, it must not end! I do not want it to end!
What a wonderful night this is!
You have made it so wonderful.
