I Dream to be a Country Singer
Who would have thought
I would be driving down the same country road
And feel a similar longing for home
When all the while I just used to
Listen to John Denver on the radio
Who would have thought
I would be watching my favorite country stars
As they perform in the Grand Ole Opry
They were just within my reach,
Yet they all seem so far away...
Who would have thought
A small town boy like me
Would be writing this country song
Someday they will get to sing
Maybe my dreams are not meant to be
I'm a songwriter and not a country singer
Refrain:
Do you still remember
when I wrote a song?
As I play with my guitar
you always sing along
Now I'm pretty sure
my guitar no longer weeps
For it has found in you
a loving home for keeps
I would be driving down the same country road
And feel a similar longing for home
When all the while I just used to
Listen to John Denver on the radio
Who would have thought
I would be watching my favorite country stars
As they perform in the Grand Ole Opry
They were just within my reach,
Yet they all seem so far away...
Who would have thought
A small town boy like me
Would be writing this country song
Someday they will get to sing
Maybe my dreams are not meant to be
I'm a songwriter and not a country singer
Refrain:
Do you still remember
when I wrote a song?
As I play with my guitar
you always sing along
Now I'm pretty sure
my guitar no longer weeps
For it has found in you
a loving home for keeps
