POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I come from a family that either does everything they can to survive, or don't.
Wishing For Innocence
I caught myself
Playing with my Legos, stuffed animals, and toys,
Yet,
The same joy
No longer had a home
In my young heart,
Chipped, and
Bruised.
So I locked
Them away,
Offering more than one
Longing glance
Back
And felt my eyes
Lose their last
Glow
Playing with my Legos, stuffed animals, and toys,
Yet,
The same joy
No longer had a home
In my young heart,
Chipped, and
Bruised.
So I locked
Them away,
Offering more than one
Longing glance
Back
And felt my eyes
Lose their last
Glow

Of the Aurora
A boy, eyes alight
From the fire of blue, red dragons
Twisting, breathing mist, frost
Born from the movements of his attenuated fingers
Dancing across a canvas,
Characters bleeding colored iridescent ink,
Hair hued the shade of arctic dust, lips patterned
With the indents of ancient glaciers
And with a whisper of her tongue
Sedating the world around her,
Easing it into the leisure of pause
As she dances for her alterations,
Then him, the one who's hot to the touch,
Veins lavender and irises silver,...

Nightmare
It was one of those dark nights
That changed me, but rather than a fragment
It altered my whole sense of being
Confusion, puzzlement
As I hit replay on the memory once more,
I had planned to go out with only my friends
The two people I nearly trusted with my life
But then he decided to come along
The boy I thought I loved,
Who everyone warned about,
The cheater, the liar, the troublemaker
I argued,
Told them it would go badly,
And they brushed me off
So at Ice Cream Hill

Statues, Ice
Do you ever hear voices,
When a fan is spinning
Or a TV is static?
Often the world feels as if it's standing still,
Yet in other breaths it's spinning diagonal,
Tilting off it's axis
While tearing oxygen from our lungs
People talk, being either the complete focus
Of our idealized attention,
Or they're silenced from our hearing
As we daydream of memories, other people, ourselves
Bread or cakes,
Separated into two categories
The worthless, drug stained sidewalks,
The leaders, bleached teeth ...

White Tiger
I fantasize about your tapered fingers
Trailing and fisting my hair around your knuckles
Caressing down my sides, leaving glowing,
Sparking,
Blue embers in your wake
Thumb brushing the skin in between my hip bones
And lips, the color of an arctic
Sunset
Caressing the shadows over my neck
And the paleness of my thighs
Leaving stains, little constellations
Where you touched me
Spreading galaxies of purple, grey, blue
Across my skin,
Stars where your eyelashes fluttered against my cheek,
Shoulders, ...

Lights & Curtains
In the coming year I felt,
I felt the ocean tides glowing dark
And the storms taunting me from the horizon
Warning me of the future bloodshed, fear, and blackness
"Are you new here?"
Yet the person who taught me to take risks,
To not take myself and life too seriously,
Offered me a lighthouse on shore
A place where I'd belong, a future
Where I knew I'd be content
How hellos turned to two hour talks after school
How nods were turned to hugs
How "hon" turned to "I love you"
And it felt like, for once
I had a...

Embers
The glow of the fire
Saturating our skin,
My lips swollen from his rough kisses
And droplets slipping from his dark hair
The look in his pale violet eyes
Above illuminated cheekbones
Offering me something no one else has
Nor is capable
A place of belonging, safety, security
A home
Saturating our skin,
My lips swollen from his rough kisses
And droplets slipping from his dark hair

Arctic Imbued
I've always known life as a poker game
Calculating potential by the hand we've been dealt
We're faced with choices, one
After another, with no scale to measure morality
Nor the consequences we're dragged through
Our parents raise us
Injecting us with their own views, perspectives
And values
They force perfection on us,
Dragging us to to whiten our teeth, to force a masterpiece
That wasn't meant to be
I recall the decision when I was seven years old
Evil beckoned from the dark
Corners of my mind
The thoughts...

Drink Me
I'm a wanderess, lone ranger
Never
Staying in one place too long, too
Afraid of attachment
With a silver, alluring tongue
And green eyes that analyze, diagnose,
Understand
What most don't
Of the way humans act and behave
A borne manipulator fearful of her own white
Lies,
Comparable to a sociopath
With empathy and morality
Broken family,
Shattered relationships,
Bloody and bruised knuckles
Above scarred wrists
Silence is my weapon, along
With words and letters I intertwine

Pixie
When water is cold
It becomes a reflection
Of all shades of light
It started the night I was fourteen,
His thin T-shirt, my black boots
On the rooftop above the flashing city
Fingers the color of powdery soot
Wrists covered in mud and scars
The boy I thought I loved toking
Daydreaming far above in the stars
Half dozing and half smoking
It kissed me
And my ability to see color without it shattered
Chemicals had already been curled in my mind
And I realized I was born
From sadness and destruction...

Last Cigarette
His name was on my last cigarette
After a night of alcohol and fighting and tears
Sitting on the dryer in the basement,
His voice speaking to me over the phone
As the artificial light flickered on
And his grip on my heart flickered off
I first saw him
Because he drank his demons as I did
I saw the cracks no one else saw behind
His smile and jokes
But he's a sucker for love
Desperate, using it to fill the holes
Left by others
3AM, telling him it was okay,
That the nightmares weren't real
And that he was going to...
