Anticipated Storm

I felt an incursion
For many years
a storm was brewing
It grazed upon my fears

I foresaw the tempest
the turbulent gales
I knew its force
would devour my sails

It raged upon arrival
I was ill prepared
for the pounding downpour
inner war declared

Madness consumed me
flooding my soul
with an ominous darkness
black as coal

Like a typhoon
my mind spun round
unable to breathe
towards hell I was bound

No one to save me
a fiery decline
no hope of survival
bedlam by design

on a hint of a storm

far off rumble
seemed un-urgent
to me

nothing shook
not walls
not bones
not crockery

and any flashes
were easily drowned
by the flicker
of the TV

which
showed scenes
of an
ugly stampede

and a
fight to death
for the
last few pop-tarts
in aisle three

Without Warning

I wasn't prepared
for lack of shelter
when the deluge came

Structures I'd built before
weakened, ill-maintained
as we played under clear blue
neglecting thoughts of safety

Left with nowhere to turn
violent clouds blinded the sun
the sudden surge eroded foundation
faulty walls tumbled down

I tried to find you in flashes of light
lost your name in the crashing,
howling noise of nature

You were gone

Calm returned slowly
hard-won
years have been long
still, I find myself looking for you
on the horizon

coastal complacency

mother’s heaving breast begets waves which
trundle in the summer months
with no concern for
s-p-f-50-lathered
bronze

concrete clouds come
westward
basal cambers coated in slate grey
wondering why
they are defied

such hubris
humans have
holding on to what they believe
belongs to them but is
the sole property of the sea

flocks
crammed in car clusters
on the freeway
fleeing
make the evening news

Storm In My Heart

Into bleakest oblivion
I feel myself fall
From the top to the bottom
I no longer stand tall

When the world is smiling
And I see no laughs
My universe is crumbling
I've strayed from my path

When I poured my heart out
Not one word did you hear
When I said its over
You smiled and jeered

So I wrote and I wrote
And I scribbled it out
My heart was a joke
And you just threw it out

I’m done and your gone
I won’t cry anymore
You left me for dead
Left me on the floor

But....

You taught me one thing
That I'll never forget...

No matter how much it storms
You can only get so wet.

She stares through eyes like glacial melt
Hair whipping around a baby face  that masks trauma
That has seen hatred abnormal to be slung towatrds a beautiful
So very pretty in spite of her furrowed brow
She finds herself stirried faster and faster from this consternation
She owns by birthright her furious countenance
She was born different and suffers the daly blow
So a gift of great sight gleams through bllnd eyes
Wisdom and redemption form her tempest
And as her mind whirls,  so does the atmosphere
They call her freak, and she feels like succumbing a dizzy that once accompanied  insecurity
But rallied by her bothers and sisters fierce enough to fight ignorance with abnormality
They calm her with strength and she settles to breeze
But only for a moment will stillness grace her
Peace exists, but is fleeting in the eye of the hurricane
