Venus Flytrap
Somewhere around a boggy area
A beautiful fragrance lures
There a pretty demon awaits
With a smile that opens any door
She beckons her victims on with a wink
Displaying her carnal offering
But beneath that scent and fine colours
Lies pain and eternal suffering
So a light feather flew across the swamp
I heard her whisper in soft tones
Words that held him spellbound
Words that have misled so many lost ones
Wet witnesses looked on
As a fool journeyed towards death
Every touch and kisses bringing him closer
To his final breath
The beautiful petals that once opened
As if to talk him in
Turned into a deadly weapon
So quick it sucked him in
Somewhere around a boggy area
A beautiful fragrance lures
There a pretty demon awaits
With a smile that opens any door
She beckons her victims on with a wink
Displaying her carnal offering
But beneath that scent and fine colours
Lies pain and eternal suffering
So a light feather flew across the swamp

Wet witnesses looked on

So quick it sucked him in

In Silence
She sits before us, downcast and mumbling on this grey, weeping morning.
They came yesterday, did their inspection.
From one definite she’s now faced with five of us falling.
Our majestic lives soon to be cut, toppling, strewn over the forest floor or fed to the hungry mouth of a wood chipper.
She wants us to understand.
She’s crying.
We stand in silence.

Bright yellow, traces of green gone bye.
Clusters tucked between evergreens.
Light reflected illumination highlights your beauty.
Dancing in the cool breeze;
Showing off before you leave.
Mountain magesty, aspen leaf.

I am an Ant
Boldly going where so few have gone before.
Marching on, marching on
Up the steep, steep, steep hill
Traversing the treacherous terrain.
Brown, dry, merciless.
Marching on, marching on;
Doing what I was born to do...
Going forward by faith
Unknowingly persevering.
I march on.
Boldly going where so few have gone before.

Prometheus Felled
You may have not been one of the majestic giants
But you were one of the oldest
From a bygone era
A witness to this ever changing world
Silenced
Oh how the centuries must have passed
And you were there to see it all
The stories you could have told
The last of your kind
You and your brethren
What have we done?
From the dawn of man
Evolved revolved unsolved
You lived through the eras
Floods and wars
And still you remained
But it was our own curiosity
That brought your demise
Why?
Because we are a species
Starving for knowledge
Even if it means killing your kind
Our minds cannot comprehend
Or let alone understand
What it means
To live a long life in peace
So we look to you
Your kind
The trees
You may have not been one of the majestic giants
But you were one of the oldest
From a bygone era
A witness to this ever changing world

Kate either of your entries would have won this comp. But you filled my emotions with this one particularly, the style and the message were phenomenal.
Thanks for the reads everyone. This was definately an awesome comp!
