THE IDES OF JULY
(Dedicated to National Nude Day, July 14th)

The Ides of July are on their way.
Let’s get ready to celebrate National Nude Day
Like toddlers we’ll run naked through the sprinkler
We’ll be innocent children dancing in the water

Whether you’d rather skinny dip under the light of the moon
Or sunbath on a nude beach in Cancun
May each of us in our own way celebrate
What God so proudly created, undraped

Happy National Nude Day everyone!  Now take off all your clothes, and get out there and have some fun.

Conversations with Emily

"Bring me the sunset in a cup.”

So I might sip it's nectar from your lips.
And watch the day retold in your eyes.
Your lashes brushing sorrow like snowflakes.

"[For] to live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.”

We've undoubtedly shared a past together in another time.
Your eyes the burgeoning moon's conscripts.
Guiding me through the pages of another millennia.

O'er the slopes of your lobes and shoulders rest the unknown.
The peal of your skin rings gently with untold laughter.
Let my fingers brush the comb of your music box to release your song.
Like the nightingales whispering through the gossamer as we sip again.

"Forever is composed of nows.”

You tell me in my moments of reservation, when I'm afraid I'll hurt you.
Why are you always so sure, I ask.

"That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.”

Quotations taken from Emily Dickinson, poet.

Lit

In slow time touch
And lips that ache
For deep kiss
And sweet nothing whispers
We sway a midnight dance

He rocks
My roll
Holding hands in moonlight stroll

The moons face smiles bright with pride
In moments long embrace
Feeling a player in this romance

Moon she says to me, I brought him to you
Like I move the tides
Please make love and moan in my shine

And so I succumb
To this mans rapture rush
Beckoning entrance to ripe red pleasure
In sensual homage to mother moon

As our bodies converge like waves
In undulating churn
I feel his silk nacre spent
Feel wet tip
Caresses my womb

I shudder in climax pulse
Blowing thankful lunar kisses

To a Goddess moon

Blood on the Moon

The last time I had seen a lunar eclipse I was a young girl standing in the middle of a tree-lined street with head tilted back as if to catch stardust in my hair, and arms outstretched to embrace the mother moon I had never seen in this way before. I didn't know that the blood on the moon was from sun rays passing through the earth's atmospheric veil, and I danced in the street that night in total awe of its red hue.

Now, here I was years later and grown, supine across the hood of my escort's BWM, shimmering and naked on a beach towel while the vehicle's host, sublime in his tuxedo, stood near, bemused and more interested in watching me than the night sky's celestial event. Resting against the windshield, I peered through his binoculars, saying my words to the image I spied through the lenses instead of directly at him:

"Ancient civilizations used to think that the moon was being swallowed whole. They'd beat drums and blow whistles to drive off the beast that would devour their goddess."

Nursing a glass of flat champagne, he approached the side of the car, admiring my form. "Yes, imagine. They took it as a sign of war and famine, and the end of their world."

I kept my eyes trained and replied, "What was terrifying to them is for us a moment of suspended beauty, a reminder of how we are travelers in space."

As a child I loved to lie on midsummer grass, my eyes on the wisps of clouds that passed overhead. I felt the earth rotate underneath the grass and the soil it grew from.  Lowering the binoculars and turning towards him:

"I don't want to be in a box in the dark in the ground. Carry me on the updrafts to the clouds that rain down. Let a tree drink of me. I'll go to the tips of its branches, I'll turn sunlight into green leaves that reach for the clouds that I used to watch when I'd feel the earth turn beneath me."

He indulged me while I reminisced and then finally took my hand to guide me back into the car while all around was bathed in blood as the lunar goddess was consumed.

Strawberry Moon

Come my sweet sunny lover
The cold borealis is behind us
Spring’s breath has gently past
Today is the summer solstice

Evening beckons you and me
On this 20th day of June
To make love outside
Beneath the shining light
Of the Strawberry Moon

Dedicated to a friend and fellow poet, who was so compassionate and caring, that she would spend that special evening watching the heavens with me.

“If only your home wasn’t in a place so far away.  You could do more than just come for a visit.  You could stay with me till the end of time.   You are the beauty of the night, who danced with me across the stars.”

                                mid night

                                               oceans
                                          alone floating
                                     on vast sheets
                                          silver caressing moonlit wake
                                  a single momentum facing stars
to weep and who would know

                          breath extends in fractured constellations

                                          seemingly stars can seep
                                          into the soul
                                                floating alone
                                                               silent
