Poetry Contest Description
Bring new life or relevance to a cliche
Try to expand on or bring new relevance to cliche.
Mountains out of molehills
Beating a dead horse
One trick pony
Give an inch, take a yard
All that glitters is not gold
every grey cloud has silver lining
Behind every great man, is a great woman
Etc..you get the point
any cliche will do
Could be the title
could be worked into obviously, or be encrypted
Could be a cliche love poem, how her eyes are like the moon
Could be roses are red, violets are blue
try to bring an original and fresh breath to it

an old one to start the proceedings 'time waits for no man and countless other time cliches
I'm just passing the time
Who knows where time flies to when we're having fun?
at what point in the past is time gathered
and stored away into the huge pockets
in the jacket of this dimension?
or how long are its coat tails
dragging along the time spent
standing in ques or waiting
for the phone to ring?
Is there a grand hall that has on display
all the fifteen minutes of fame?
Or is time filtered of it's activities and recycled
among every living thing in the universe?
When time tells all, who does it speak to?
and where are its great healing powers
when the living start slowly dying
from the moment of conception?
is time not just as ruthless
as any other mass murderer?

It was the confession of a liar
That told the truth
I didnt do it
Blame it on my diagnose
Blame it on my awfull youth
Never believed in heaven
Because this
This is hell
Blame it on the gun
Blame it on the spell
Kiss and tell
Dropped down
She fell
Poor lass
ONly in the bloom
Of the blossom of youth
Everything is false
Except for truth

Let's Be Real
baby, please don't
handle me with kid's gloves
fluff up my pillow
beat around the bush
sugar-coat your words
keep secrets and such
you should know
atleast this much
i have nothing to prove
and i can take anything
as long as it's the truth

Tired Phrase
When hell freezes over
We’ll walk down and back again
To an Antarctica Oblivia
As ice caps need the devil’s luck
Since old habits die hard
We’ll kill the time with cigarettes
And drink our problems far
So few in between a couple of addictions
As we look the gift horse in the mouth
It’ll bite off our heads, and we’ll run around
Like mindless chickens, but it’s a worthy punishment
For we are all selfish and ungrateful animals
If beauty is truly skin deep
We’ll peel away our birthday suits
Then sit around and marvel at one another
Blinded with love
And when the fat lady finally sings
We’ll leave here, bellies up
Pushing up the daisies around us
Parting is truly such sweet sorrow
When hell freezes over
We’ll walk down and back again
To an Antarctica Oblivia
As ice caps need the devil’s luck
Since old habits die hard
We’ll kill the time with cigarettes
And drink our problems far
So few in between a couple of addictions

lol, I also ran a cliche comp, many months ago. I'll see if I can come up with an entry or two for this one

When I was ten .
Spent a summer learning it’s colours
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo
and violet.
Studied the landscape
the hills and trees
the paths
the sunsets
Fixed my bike,
made its wheels
roll like thunder.
Waited for the rain.
On that day,
the day
it rained
I took to the street
waiting
anticipation begging.
Then I saw them
the colours
took the landscape
to pieces
peddling like
tomorrow would
never arrive.
Never found the gold.

Not Every Cloud
It was a horrible day
almost a yr ago, soon actually
her cries
I can still hear them
her cuts and bruises
I can still see them
A party
that never should have happened
a drink
she never should have taken
and now
she is vulnerable
the predator takes his prey
An Ugly grey cloud
that will hang over her head
and cause her pain
the rest of her days
As her mother
I only wish
I could
take that pain away
No silver lining here

This is one I had written early this year in response to a forum thread about overused phrases, and it's never been published other than my book...but, I think it might fit this little comp...
It Is What It Is...
Believe me folks, and I hate to say it,
But, I think you know what I mean.
How certain phrases cannot be unheard,
Like some things cannot be unseen.
Certain people complain that certain phrases,
Are being seriously over said.
But how can you not like “whatever?”
When it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
I’m just sayin’ and trust me on this,
How there’s one in every crowd.
Someone who doesn’t like the word ‘like,’
Just makes me laugh out loud.
Just to make sure we’re on the same page,
And if we are, you’ve me to thank.
Surely you’ll agree, it is what it is,
And you can take that to the bank.
And Oh My God, the very thought,
Of trying to change what people say.
Remember that patience is a virtue,
And Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Good things come to those who wait,
And we should give it the old college try.
For if we all work together,
It could be as easy as pie.
But to get rid of all these annoying phrases,
It’s not just a matter of time.
We’ll have to bring it before the committee,
And it will require a new paradigm.
