Poetry Contest

What takes your air? When do you feel suffocated?
Is there no space in a relationship?  Are your thoughts weighing your down?  Are you lying awake at night with a pressure on your chest?

Or, have you been in an actual situation where your air supply is endangered?  Have you found yourself in a situation where all you could think of was how to take your next breath?

Bonus twist:
Selected entries can be considered for publication in the next issue of an online magazine.  Please indicate if you wish to:

1. Be published (real name or user name), plus link to your poems (optional).
2. Keep your work strictly within this competition here on DUP.

I will be choosing a winner here for this forum competition on DUP, but submissions for publication are to be considered by the editorial staff at the magazine.  Anyone interested in more details, please message me.

Pul(p)monary

monarchy of art
I painted lungs on the wall
a throne of phlegm
my wounds asphyxiated by what's known to them
heart seeping through the larynx
air craved by the anvils
sent to extricate panels
judge me by my last breath

~Tyrotoxism~

He wouldn't stop
always touching me
my hair
my arms
my waist
my legs
even my face
smothering
suffocating
me
always whispering in my ear
never a bad word
always sweet
yet i wish he would say nothing
loving me to much
making me claustrophobic
making me sick
with his overbearing love
wanting to free myself
from this sarcophagus
he built with his feelings
I used to love flowers
now I get them everyfuckingday
the never ending texts
telling me how much he cares
making plans every single night
draped over me
clinging
holding on for dear life
constantly trying to hold my hand
grasping for any limb of mine
wanting me closer
me wanting to flee
from his
everlasting
romantic schemes
all this cheese is making me lactose intolerant
romance is cheesy
to me
its poison
Trytoxism

This is an old one.  Can we only enter one Atakti? I would like to write a new one to enter.

Torment..

And there lay's a torment waiting
Dormant yet creating
O to wash it from it's slumber
Before it lives and takes me asunder

Winding and binding suffocating
Consuming me with no abating
Wrapt within my weary head
My heart throbbed as it slowly bled

Bereft of hope I shut all out
Letting go of what I doubt
Closing doors as I'm unsure
Of what I'm feeling anymore

I quaff the night then find my rest
A heavy sigh escapes my chest
O my dreams release me now
Encompass me and show me how

Infinite visions there are flowing
Answers to the torment growing
I then awake from my slumber
Torment lives and takes me under
.

Suffocating Dreams

They suffocate me... my dreams
nearly every night I wake gasping for air

He was always there
his evil face
as he put the pillow over my head
as he dug a grave and buried me alive

There were also the dreams with the black shadow
It would try to suck my breath from my mouth
It visited me often but I always showed no fear
I would challenge it with my will until it disappeared

I got stronger through the years
in dreams and in life
turned my fear upon what I feared
faced it head on in my dreams
and they both visited me less and less
him and the black shadow

Until recently

I was drifting off to sleep
when something lay heavy on top of me
crushing me and suffocating me
I was under my quilt and couldn't breathe

I showed no fear
challenged it and willed it away
until it just disappeared

And I
closed the door on my suffocating dreams

Make It Stop

A constant nagging noise
Your added voice
A problem I don't need
I'd rather stay gone
Cause' when I'm home you make me leave
Stop the fuss and the beef
The arguments are not for me
And you stay in my face
I need some space
Just let me breath
A much needed retreat
Some quiet time so I could sleep
It's needless to say
You're not the person I believed you to be
Open mind
If you'll listen you'd find
I'm here to give support of a passionate kind
Yet and still your insecurities are bugging
Accuse me of cheating and doing things you know I wasn't
I feel like I'm trapped
Affectionately dis-involved
Shower me with the questions as soon as I get off the job
Nothing more I can say
you could stay but I could not
Either way
I'll do whatever it takes to make it stop

Conservative Man

Your heterosexual
testosterone level
suffers the ache
to the pit
of my stomach
and delivers vomit to my eyes.

Your prejudicial slander
suffocates my mentality
to the last
remaining thought.

I am blinded by your
sexist outrage
and disgusted
by your rape.

Your eager fists
thoughtless words
and pictures of hatred
deliver
an acute
case of claustrophobia
to my lungs.

I drown in your literary refuse
and pray
for a garbage collector today.

I wrote this poem just now.. my newest poem.. a combination of German and English, it may or may not be relevant for you but i'd like to share it, as I exposed far more of myself than I usually do.. If you choose to publish.. under my name of Evan Sarov will do.

My Rose..

Through diverse eyes.. my perplexed perception
A world of demise, through me can you breathe
Behold unto me, grasp my hand tightly
Allow your warmth to filter through my barren soul

Hear me of all my pain, stripped down bare on this sullen Earth
Feuer und wasser, through the elements of this world
You can do unto me, as I have done unto you
Allow my soul to weep amongst this barren stone

Confessions of my pain, of my struggle
Through these you know, perfection and normality never graced me
My beautiful flower, never wither.. never die..
Only through you.. can my soul be spared

Of this suffering, of my pain
Feuer und wasser.. the elements become your tool
Heal me, soothe my suffering..
My love.. my saving grace.. my rose red angel...

Feuer und wasser.. fire and water.. heal me of my pain
Soothe me.. This pain I can carry no longer..
No matter the price.. or the crimes of any plight..
Heal me, my darling rose.. before I, wither before you

You are my path to reprisal.. allow me to claim you.. sweet rose
Allow me to smell your scent.. may it grace me..
I breathe in.. inhale the scents..
I shudder in bewildered delight.. you're as sweet my rose..

Miss Clarke.. my desire.. my infatuation of you.. forever burns
Undying love.. us remained unwavered over this decade..
Through death..
Can we unite once again..

Mein herz brennt fur dich, meine rose..

Heyyyyy, everyone, thanks for posting.  Great DUP work, as I expected!

For those submitting for consideration of publication,  I would like to suggest including the link directly to your poems, NOT your profile; when I was a new member, it was not clear how to reach poems from a profile, and unfortunately, the web audience has a short attention span.  :)

Alternatively, if you have your own creative website outside of DUP, you can submit that instead.. Perhaps that website links back to DUP? Bam, 2 in 1

Just consider the above as friendly tips to get your work out there, and good luck.
