Halloween
The leaves have turned from green to ginger
autumns creeps with its cold fingers
the equinox past and natures hand
inexorable, looking for a place to camp
Bring the first dew to the gravestones
freshly carved and hardly cold
through the yew trees, an east wind moaned
the spirits day, be arriving as foretold
Druids clad in robes a flowing
chanting as they praised the runes
brought the wood and laid the kindling
invoke the power of the moon
On the the date that greets the cusp
the stocking net tween them and us
gathered in that waiting room
and rise to mingle, the entombed
Death's jailer grinned ,rattling his ring of keys
forever that would be your normal tenure
but just a few might be reprieved
to escape the chain of your debenture
you capital is mine to keep
Rise to join the living and the quick
as spooky bat or spiders spit
as hollow laugh to cause a fit
spectre in flourescent green outfit
the holocaust rise from the blitz
Take the coin, unwrap the sweet
try to hold the warm last threads
pale history pop-ups for us to greet
break the seal, the grave embeds
Lay the table, feed the fire
in finery , dancing free now hear the woops
holding on to those retired
for we are walking in their shoes
Samhain; October's gala for those passed on
dark masquerade before November comes
autumns creeps with its cold fingers
the equinox past and natures hand
inexorable, looking for a place to camp
Bring the first dew to the gravestones

Gaslight
I calmly go inside to dim the lights,
All Hallows’ Eve, my favorite time of year.
My home’s an old Victorian by night
To meet & greet the ghosts & goblins here.
The mood of gaslight adds a mystery;
I calmly go inside to dim the lights.
The evening’s like my favorite China tea,
Each child who visits me is my delight.
Selecting younger ones as tender bites,
They quickly disappear in little cakes.
I calmly go inside to dim the lights,
Enticing those who come with treats I bake.
I shine my pumpkin grin down on my prey,
The wide-eyed children run in fear & flight.
What oft the gods will give soon take away,
I calmly go inside to dim the lights.

The Collector
carefully wrapped in paper,
he always gives his best;
tied up tight with fancy bows,
displayed with all the rest
the prettier the package,
the easier the prey;
girls are easily flattered,
by gazes that betray
he gifts them with his poison,
his words are silk and wine;
when heavy eyes glaze over,
he plucks them from the vine
he always gives his best;
tied up tight with fancy bows,
displayed with all the rest
the prettier the package,
the easier the prey;
girls are easily flattered,
by gazes that betray
he gifts them with his poison,
his words are silk and wine;
when heavy eyes glaze over,
he plucks them from the vine

An Old Woman sings
Is there a death
Or a corpse among us
With the unwilting power
To flower
In face
To transform
Remorse’s course
And not stand in place
With footprints sure
On the edge of obscure
But not a tip toe in to six
And deep
To unshovel the ashes
From out of the heap
A noose who’d unravel
After judges gavel
A careless hood that might show
Sweet hangman’s face
O’ face please lie
Tell me I might not die
Tell me I edge ever still
Towards my infancy
Will my mirror to crack
I will gather her back
Puzzle pieced
And closer to thee
Or a corpse among us
With the unwilting power
To flower
In face
To transform
Remorse’s course
And not stand in place
With footprints sure
On the edge of obscure
But not a tip toe in to six
And deep
To unshovel the ashes
From out of the heap
A noose who’d unravel
After judges gavel
A careless hood that might show
Sweet hangman’s face
O’ face please lie
Tell me I might not die
Tell me I edge ever still
Towards my infancy
Will my mirror to crack
I will gather her back
Puzzle pieced
And closer to thee

Killer Night
It’s going to be a chill night,
The sexy ghouls and spicy goblins are everywhere,
Their costumes are skintight,
With dangerous curves from their tops to derrieres.
I’m going to love the sights,
Slight erotic actions are bound to make me move,
The music sounds so right,
I’m quite neurotic but I’ll still go out to groove.
The streets are slightly dark,
Vampires, witches and werewolves are on parade,
There’s noise in the park,
The undead are screaming mad in a motorcade.
I see many zombies,
They’re all dressed in camouflage and tattered rags,
Then I notice they’re all diseased,
Damn it, they’re Trump supporters waving their flags
Oh what a drag…
Because it’s a killer,
Killer night,
The zombies were told not to be afraid of Covid-19,
Now they’re all killing,
Out of spite,
They’re not wearing masks and coughing all over Halloween.
They ain’t poppin’ and lockin’,
They’re just walking around with mouths open wide,
Yelling obscenities while mockin’
Those of us with faces covered as they look wild eyed.
But like Gloria Gaynor I will survive,
I ran like hell to get away from the living dead,
All because orange forty-five,
Told his base not to be afraid of the Covid spread.
I may have pushed a nurse or two,
They weren’t running fast enough in those high heels,
And if I hear one achoo,
I’m punching people to get out of my way because this is real.
Sorry, I got the feels…
I want to use my chiller,
Chiller font,
To express the anxiety these zombies are causing me to grieve,
This sounds familiar,
It’s quite the fright,
Like M J did back in the day but this is happening on Hollow’s Eve.
I think they’re killers,
With killing tasks,
They’re not social distancing but are rather causing a scene,
They won’t consider
Wearing masks,
The super spreaders are taking all the fun out of Halloween.

Be Afraid To Be Alone
The night is growing
You are still awake
Your T.V. is snowing
You have a mild headache
The winds punish your shutters
The rain brutalizes your house
A local owl hoots its mutter
The elements create a rouse
The branches claw your windows
The trees sway along the breeze
The thunder rolls its billows
While the lightning threatens to seize
Your T.V. becomes alive
Broadcasting the local news
There were reports of a demise
On the very street you snooze
There’s a sudden interruption
An escape from an asylum
The thunder claps an abruption
A local island
Your T.V. just died
So did all your power
Your mind kidnaps itself outside
You try the phone but it’s a busy shower
Quick flashes of light attract your eye
You catch a glimpse of a specter
You rush the window for a private eye
Reflecting the news like a projector
One flash you’re astounded
The next flash there’s nothing
Confusion slithers, your heart is grounded
Your breath is lost like asthma huffing
You close all your blinds
And check all your doors
Your sanity unwinds
Your only thought, protect what’s yours
Your mind is racing
Selling you tricks
You find yourself pacing
Your heart is beating bricks
You’re snapped out of your agenda
By the melody of your doorbell
Anxiety maps a new dilemma
Your imagination begins to swell
You quickly check your peephole
Not a soul insight
It feels like the grim reaper stole your soul
As you respond to your flight or fight
You check your kitchen for a flashlight
But find only knives instead
You pick up the biggest one insight
Protect yourself or else you’re dead
You search upstairs for better ground
In case you need to ambush
The screaming rain drowns out all sound
You discipline your breathing to a steady hush
Your house is still dark and quiet
With the exception of the flashes
Your emotions stir up a riot
As the thunder continuously clashes
You hear a thud outside your porch
And a rattling of your doorknob
Your veins begin to scorch
As your headache starts to throb
Your lights produce a flicker
You hear your front door crack
Your mind races quicker
Your door closes with some slack
Your predator creeps slowly
With intent to make no noise
Your goosebumps caress more soapy
As you talk yourself to poise
Your predator scales the stairs
You clutch your knife closer
Your eyes swell up in tears
You know your life is over
Closer and closer you hear
Your predator’s in your face
You thrust your knife in fear
They stumble down the case
Your adrenaline hits hyper-drive
You suddenly fear the worst
Are they ok? Are they alive?
You run down the stairs in auto-burst
You approach with extreme caution
Your life is jeopardized
Your power rids of its exhaustion
Now your fear is realized
All your power illuminates
Restoring order to your house
The upheaval of shock drops its weights
What lies before you is your spouse
Your knife rested in their neck
You incoherently start to murmur
Nothing more than an emotional wreck
Congratulations, you’ve just committed murder
