Poetry Contest

Share romantic poems.
"[Romance is] a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. . . . love, especially when sentimental or idealized."- Google.

I might not consider poems without the theme #romantic. Poems will be commented on by me and other contestants. If you want comments, then put your poem webpage's full url link (or just the 6 digits that are within that url) at the bottom of your posts.

Submit any poem, even if it was written beforehand, commented on by me or in a previous contest. submit 3 poems maximum, but no duplicate entries. Don't add or edit posts, after the contest has closed. Your poem can't solely be an image, audio, or video; but must have some accessible text that wholly represents it.

Message me with any concern, including of integrity or of rule violations.

Here's some inspiration:

Your concert

There was a maid's plate of each berry
which peeked through the clouds with a cherry;
now sir Summer did prance,
serve her supper with dance,
to balance that plate of each berry.

There was a sir Winter of ponds
who froze them to symbol his bonds;
with this maid, he would skate,
but much to his weight,
would crash through those same freezing ponds.

Spring's lake blossoms fertile dirt by such faces
whom Summer's hydrangeas skirt by such faces.

Why does Winter's snow greet rosed skin with tickles,
as flakes caress 'neath covert by such faces?

When brothers trade each one's blood 'fore a wife; ribs
melt piece by piece, with such hurt by such faces!

A nursing left hand mends frostbitten wounds
till iced lips praise and flirt, "By such faces!"

To kiss Spring's right palm, Summer suffers Winter-
Earth, they Will always concert; by such faces.

Shades of Blue

I always had a weakness for blue eyes
Gorgeous orbs far more precious than sapphires
This royal color exists everywhere in nature
It quickly became my favorite color.

Halcyon days soon blessed my soul
As I found my soul-mate to accompany me
Through storms and gentle winds, he is a constant presence
Looking up at the sky and I admire those shades of blue.

His golden hair that outshines the sun, and his gentle smile that warms my heart
Yet everything melts away once I stare in his azure eyes.

Just when life couldn’t get better, my soul came to life once more
As a Phoenix emerged from the flames before me
His stunning fiery hair illuminated the night
One look into his cyan eyes had me under a spell.

This crimson angel is proud and majestic
And swirling in his bright eyes are gorgeous shades of blue.

Walking along the beach, I met the last piece in my heart’s puzzle
A being as rare and precious as a Pearl
He had a rose in his hands, and a delicious smirk on his face
Yet all I saw were shades of blue.

Surrender

Mysterious eyes as vibrant as the deep oceans,
Brilliant hair that outshines the sun;
Strong hands that are lethal with a blade,
Yet soft and gentle on my skin.
-
Tall and straight and full of pride,
His voice like music caressing my keen ears;
Incredibly fearless and full of wisdom,
It’s no wonder why I fell for him.
-
I surrender to this Godsend from above,
The very embodiment of true love;
My soul sparks to life in his presence,
In this cursed land he’s my piece of heaven.
-
I rise from the depths of the abyss,
To seek out the light that he emits;
I’m blind and scattered without his grip on me,
Warm seems the candle to one who has never felt the sun.
-
My heart, mind and soul belong to him,
I can’t imagine my life with anyone else;
He’s the one who makes my soul feel complete,
He’s my eternal light, always shining.
-
I surrender to this Godsend from above,
The very embodiment of true love;
My soul sparks to life in his presence,
Our bond grows stronger as I take in his essence.

Crimson Dawn

Like a newborn Phoenix

I rose from the ashes of despair

I have my crimson angel to thank for that

With eyes the color of a shifting sea

And silken locks that burn with the sun's rays

His very soul glows in magnificent radiance

He is the fire that roars within me

I'm completely powerless against his pull

I'm empty and cold without his warmth

He is the crimson dawn that brings life to a colorless night

He was my beginning, he is my present

And he will be my end.

Bistro Table

Let fingers rest
In slow circles’ space

And thumb linger
On taught buttons’ curve

Your breath’s rustle
Electric, subtle rush

I breathe your scents
Nature's perfumed airs

Your owning clutch
Catching me in you.

Under Irish Sky

To lie in barley under Irish sky
As Herb Moon shone upon your naked form
My heart was captured by your Irish eyes
In peace before our passion’s gathering storm
That night, my love, we quietly embraced
And cultivated tenderness of touch
A lifetime’s magic in that time and place
Against which all loves since must not be judged!
My wish, to see that moon again with you
Without the cares that life has since imposed
In hindsight all my future I’d eschew
And stay with you forever, unopposed
A fool I was, to ever say goodbye
To you, in barley, under Irish sky!

Parmigiano

Whenever I cook, I do it with ambition
to amaze your senses, to impress, to raise the bar…
How much Parmigiano is enough to ensure no abandonment
   and permanent status of no-rejection?
I’ve built my life around these towers –
up, up into the light – lifting some more material
   for yet another storey hall.
Let me grate you some more above the tasty pasta,
smile and chew with pleasurous moans another byte,
bit by bit into the clouds.
Come sit with me here, lets look
through these windows of thin achievement
   and empty appreciation.
Do you love me? – the jackal asked the giraffe once again.
Right now, no… I’m eating pasta – with a full mouth she responded
   full of thoughts gravitating around
   that triangle shaped Parmigiano block.
Thinking to herself:
What is the lie I tell myself most often?
The Parmigiano is a lie.

how mine are you?

soaking deep into this mid-summer melancholia
I submerge into reflection
toying with the question

you ASKED me
“how mine are you?”

dear…
everything’s so twisted
and stuffed
in this… modern way of life

do I belong to you?
or I belong to the hours and minutes
imprisoned in the colored rectangles of my calendar

now that is empty
would you claim and have me?
would you like to take a part of me?
from the parts you know
…any part you like

or you would TAKE what I won’t GIVE willingly

and what if
I am your’s completely…?
would you RECEIVE this invitation?

let me see
where your inner curiosity is taking you

or you would like to have me idling on the shelves
in standby
and industrious availability
nicely blending with the interior
something
that might come in handy
sometime

“how mine are you?”

would you crave what I’ll REFUSE you knowing
or having

DAYDREAMING of you is my way of being your’s
in extends that scare me…

so why do you ask me this?

onto something

all these years you and I
patiently waited
for our senses
to grow sharper [1]

and ecstatically experience
each other

remember that boy
that demystified
love
as an infatuation
living in the dimensions
of neurochemical reactions

what happens
when these violent molecules
cease to shiver
and the chemical storm
subsides as dust
almost unnoticed

because these are the facts
we can’t ignore…

but as aware as I’m
about facts
scientific knowledge
engineered lifestyles
and that quiet desperation
the generation of our parents
designed for us to consume us

I took the choice
to be onto something
else
not there in the cold facts
but poetic facts we put
in place of material explanations

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart) [2]

is a vision
that transcends
into the animated pictures
of old couples
holding hands

and that funny feeling
when we look at those
with questions
and adoration
we can’t formulate
yet
