Christmas Rose
- Christmas Rose -
As Christmas so fades into the mists of time,
For this year, I thought to capture in rhyme…
Some sort of sublime meaning: some depth.
But as the air chills and frosty is the breath,
I think of a certain Rose, and her fair beauty.
If all this world is a garden filled with dignity,
Her graceful hues are bright, and unfading…
And so as Christmas fades, thus anticipating:
The new-year to come, she is still so lovely!
Is it any wonder she moves my heart subtly?
With warmth in words, in heart, soul, mind…
And sweetness that never leaves me behind,
To ponder where her loving presence dwells.
She is with me in spirit as the wind so swells,
As the snow falls down, as all the ice forms…
Yet when I think of her, chill winter warms,
And I feel as though spring has come again.
The petals of flowers, carried on the wind…
Rather than the snowflakes and their shapes,
Which tumble to the ground and there waits:
The carpeting of pale design: which snow is.
Instead of that, I swear I see summer bliss…
Grassy meadows where butterflies may flit,
Where I might see my Rose and with her sit.
Time is nothing, when eternal are our souls…
And I feel immortal, when thinking of Rose,
Who brings me joy all throughout the year!
For, she is there, when bitter fall my tears…
And when I walk in my garden free of care,
I feel her presence, as if she was also there.
So when I thought to pen a Christmas poem,
My thoughts strayed far from this my home.
They flew to my Rose and finding my muse,
In her loveliness, I penned this simple truth:
For all in this poem is true, within my heart,
Where a fair Rose blooms, never to depart.

Family Christmas Car Rides From The Past
Sitting in the back was always my preference.
I couldn’t tell you why I just wanted to vibe.
Vibe alone at the time.
Big headphones blocked my ears.
Visualization at such a young age was really activated.
Back then I wasn't even over stimulated.
Like many today.
Overstimulated.
Who are we to blame them?
If I fell asleep I’d wake up after like I never slept.
Can’t wait to see Grandma and Grandpa.
The home cooked food would be eaten as long as I could handle.
I anticipated some really cool gifts.
I’d make sure my sugar intake was high.
I knew it would be a long night.
Please don’t make me talk too much when it was my turn to unwrap my gifts.
I’d be shy.
Older now the ride is still the same.
Except the headphones are replaced with me alone in the front as the driver. - Clearminded Villain Poetry

Christmas 1983
It wasn’t so much that the presents were under the tree
Or the anticipation of a toy I waited for that year
But it was the music from all over the neighborhood
That made Christmas Eve a holiday full of memory
While us kids played with sparklers and firecrackers
The friendly neighbors would go from house to house
They’d share food and greetings with so much joy
As everyone would wear brand new threads
I’d hear the nostalgic and joyful music from each home
While we waited for “Twelve” on our clocks and watches
My neighbor had the biggest firework because at midnight
In middle of the street
He’d blow one up so loud it sounded like dynamite
And once we’d hear the loud bang welcoming Christmas
Each and every neighbor up and down Lucas Street came out
We’d hug wishing each other the best, genuinely and sincerely
It felt like it was what the season was really about
The memory of music, dancing, food, the smell of powder
The joy of partaking, up and down the entire neighborhood
Families gathered around talking, drinking, laughing
It’s the best memory of Christmas I have from my childhood

Christmas 1984
It was a culture shock, at least to me
The civil war had been raging and had gotten out of hand
So we left
But when I celebrated my first Christmas in the U.S.
The silence of silent night took a whole new meaning
Though we spent the night talking, eating and listening to music
That old happy tunes felt more nostalgic than ever before
But it was the silence of the neighborhood that got me
No fireworks, no firecrackers, do we even know our neighbors?
The melting pot certainly had a different feel that first year
Why was Christmas Eve so quiet out in the streets
The celebration of Jesus that once felt like an all night party
Was now a more revered event of silence and peace
The new clothes and toys brought joy to that ten year old boy
But it was the start of new traditions in a new country
While my family celebrated and remembering the old times
Christmas 1984 was the beginning of nostalgia for me

Festive
Halloween has gone
And soon there'll be snow
Christmas is coming
Only a few weeks to go
The nights get darker
There's a chill in the air
The people all get busy
There's so much to prepare
Laura starts looking
For all the nice gifts
She knows that to afford them
She'll have to work the night shifts
The days go by
Soon Santa will be here
The Smith's start to worry
They're still paying off last year
Single mam Sally
Hates seeing her boys upset
She buys all the newest toys
And adds to her credit card debt
The decorations go up
Everyone gets the holiday feels
John knocks down an old woman
To get to the best Black Friday deals
Families enjoy the markets
They sing 'tis the season'
Round the corner, they don't care
There's a homeless man freezing
Old Jasper's family's all gone
They don't pick up the phone to call
He'll be lonely this Christmas
The tears start to fall
Karen lays in hospital
Her situation hopeless
Her only present this year
Is a terminal diagnosis
Tom's wife just left him
She took his kids, his house, his pride
He grabs a rope from the cupboard
This will be his last Yuletide
The festive time is full of
Fun, food and drink
But for others it's a struggle
So just stop....
And think
Spread a little joy to someone
Be it a friend, a stranger, your mother
The most important gift this Christmas
Is being kind to one another
And soon there'll be snow

Christmas
I remember the Christmas lights the best
decorating our tree with dazzling colors
so shiny next to the tinsel
the brightly wrapped packages
and my dreams of what would be awaiting me Christmas morning
I would watch all night waiting for Santa to come
bringing gifts for me and my sisters
I could barely stand the wait
until then we baked Christmas cookies
and made lists for the man himself
my dad was my favorite part of the season
he loved Christmas and would always go out of his way
to make it beautiful for us
come christmas morning we would gather around the tree
family would come over
there would be football on tv
eating our ham and catching up
my little sister running to the living room nude
so excited by the gift she received
then laughing with my other sister about it
playing with the toys Santa brought
so many dreams came with those toys
it was the seventies
it will never be the same
so I bid a nostalgic goodbye to Christmas past
and wish you Happy Holiday one and all
