Poetry Contest

Write an unrhymed original epigram in fifty words or less.

(I just found out today) An epigram is a short thought provoking statement, a memorable, often satirical, and even humorous statement. The epigram is as old as ancient Greece, maybe even older.

Write an unrhymed original epigram in fifty words or less.

If you were to be remembered by an epigram what would sum you up. What philosophies, morals, politics, humours, and satires would you want people to think about?

If it makes people think, it’s a success, if it can make people smile after thinking, it might even be genius.

Sadly, poems WILL NOT be considered as competition entries

This is an epigram competition

If you already have an epigram in your collection feel free to enter it.

If you want to enter this competition and don’t have an epigram in hand, write one.

Writing epigrams is fun.

Family Affair

Dysfunction repeats itself
it’s an endless cycle of
acute biological mayhem

Human Nature

Just because it’s broken
doesn’t mean it don’t work
and just because it works
doesn’t mean it ain’t broken

Epigram

He lived he bitched a lot and to no use
He cried, suffured,  died
His life was no fun.

Words Unsaid

It's the quiet ones you have to watch.
Though she kept herself to herself,
you'll find what was left unsaid
within her notes and words.

Necessary

The reality is that we must behave with integrity. We are only free when we have nothing to hide. We must be models of rectitude and practice the principles of honesty and decency. What we do and what we say must be aligned. Our compassion must be greater than our own sufferings. These ideals are not luxuries but necessities; without them humanity cannot survive.

Peace

Real peace is not merely the absence of conflict,
It is the complete freedom from all evil.

Honour

An honourable and upright person does not arrogantly call for honour
The one who demands honour is satisfied with mere insincere talk,
But an honourable person deservingly receives honour from the heart
