I enjoyed it.
I think you would have enjoyed it too, if you had seen it as a topic to discuss, rather than as some guy on the internet attacking you....a missed opportunity to educate me, or to expand on your world view.

There is a list of countries best places to be self sufficient, and Ireland scores very highly.
Russia’s stated intention is twofold....become self sufficient, but also to have other countries become reliant on them. This led to the very sweet gas deals they did to supply European countries. As soon as they had those countries dependant on that energy, they began using supply as a negotiating strategy.
I’m still amazed that such an obvious tactic wasn’t seen a mile away by the likes of Germany.
Perhaps a good example of why long term stable leadership defeats democratically led countries, whose planing and strategies are short sighted/short term.
(Fully support a wee stash of gold buried in a bay named after a type of fruit tree....I imagine he got that idea off a particularly untrustworthy sailor in the South Pacific somewhere...or maybe a Jew)

I don't recall russian state tv mention the latter half of the two fold as I understand the USA threatened European countries who were willing to have the pipeline I think it's called Nord stream, sanctioned the workers just before it was finished , new workers went and finished it
fairly big deal having a pipeline like that, China has been building what's been called The new silk trail, also a fairly big deal
theres been a lot of talk about dumping the dollar, I think that's one of the things BRICKS is working on, also probably connected to the gold hoard
I think yes, theres a certain amount of maneuvers going in. Syria was very important, I think it's fair to say the regime is safe enough now. US is on the brink of war with someone
Iran is a potential fire cracker, turkey too, its hard to tell which side it's on. Europe union is facing a bit of a backlash over the way it handled (or didn't) the crisis we're in
most things happen for a reason. the price of oil is cheap as fuck, it's a perfect time to fill up the war machines

I think the energy strategy was refered to more as a “partnership” in western press, but Putin was pretty clear about the energy deals being a strategic arrangement to his own people.
We watch the Silk Road with great interest on this side of the world. I think (and this is just me) that the US have created this by the aggressive ring-fencing of China by what is effectively a naval blockade. Have a look at a map of US naval bases in the region. In China’s position I think I would have come to the same conclusion and decided to build a land network.
Turkey is in the hands of religious leadership...it’s a real mess, especially if you are familiar with the great words and leadership of Attaturk. He was a truly great man, who had such a strong vision for Turkey. To see religion back in their halls of power is very ugly....lot of people have/will die on their southern border.
Re the US war machine, it is generally agreed that what brought the US out of the Great Depression wasn’t the New Deal, Roosevelt, or anything else. It was the money generated by their war machine’s expansion to join in to WWII.
In that context, a US economy on its knees is incredibly dangerous....especially if one of them picks up a history book and puts two and two together. (interesting fact: the US has only not been at war for I think 16 years of its life. This makes it the most warlike nation we know of, and makes the Romans, who most people think of as war-fighters, look like your friendly neighbour).
The US dollar will struggle to maintain its position as the global benchmark....if you feel like it, look up a YouTube Channel called Economics Explained. They do a great piece on this, and are a terrific resource on many topics.

yeah, US has a policy of surrounding countries with bases, eastern europe is a good example too. theres the whole south china sea thing too which would probably have ramifications for Australia and NZ
Turkish leader, Erdogan, he's not much of a strategist. keeps over reaching himself, and keeps using refugees as currency.
Hadn't a hope of any kind of result from the war with Syria he wanted. US, and Europe backed the fuck away from that pronto
he also took a lot of flack in his parliament. he's on thin ice there. I've watched him a lot on tv giving speeches and such strikes me as an emperor type person. he's in the wrong century,
Energy is a big thing. Russia has effectively taken the European market away from US shale. on the same kinda note China took the European market of 5g
these are both decent accomplishments considering.
then there's the array of weapons Russia came out with last year. if they are in fact actual weapons they are also the most advanced military. also interesting to see the disparage between defence budgets
I think what may be happening is like one of those chinese things where the turtle beats the hare (loosely translated) they're makin their slick subtle moves
In the west we have theatre. leaders aren't of the best stock: Macron is another wanna be emperor, that fellow in England with the hair, the joke of a caretaker government here, that mad fucker in Hungry, Austria, Italy..
all the time, the turtle is strolling towards the finish line

You might enjoy the paper that was published, and discussed here. There are strong arguments that democracy is in decline. The democracy of the Greeks was a democracy of informed citizens who were engaged in and serious about democracy. They also personally fought in the wars they declared.

It has been repeated many times, but the ultimate key to success of any system is stability. It allows people to make investments, take out loans, upskill, nurture relationships....the list goes on. Wealth is a function of stability. What does this mean for the US's top spot, given their spiral in to turmoil? History is very clear.
Our short memories can't imagine societies failing, but not one single country has existed for more than a few hundred years (and those examples are very rare). Rome was really several different systems. The Greeks same. European countries names might be old, but their current systems are very new. (there are two glaring exceptions, but they are poor examples for various reasons....Egypt, and China. Of the two, China has been the worlds only superpower for almost all of recorded history. They want their throne back, and who can blame them. Actually I support them, since China as a super power was a trading nation, not a conqueror)
I think it's interesting that we think the same way about technological advancements, that they will continue forever.
In reality history is much uglier. Great (and not so great) civilizations, currencies, countries and armies fail. Always.
Technological advances are always lost. In the past the knowledge has passed to other civilizations. One great favor the west got was their own mathematics given back to them, much improved, after the dark ages (by the Arabic nations)....for example.
There is no reason to think we could not face a decline of democracies, and return to more long term ruling systems, and very probably a dark age.
(You watch the politics on your side of the globe closer than I do, but I see disarray, the return of fascist language, a loss of kindness, the rise of populist leadership, and an economic union that will crush it's members in debt over time unless the economic policy is altered. Also, you have a pretty tough neighbour to the North who owns half of the world energy reserves, have a Tsar back in charge, and a risk of a power vacuum when he pops off.....good luck with all that
In regard to claims of Russian military supremacy, I'd take that with a heavy grain of salt. They have a long history of bluffing on military capability, and I doubt it's any different right now when it's the US who have Gen 5 air-superiority in development, much much more sea power, the two largest air fleets in the world, etc etc.....guess we'll see what happens
Re our own fears, the Aussies are being very brave right now, allowing an increase in US military presence, picking Covid fights with China, all while totally reliant financially on China and with a huge percentage of their mineral and property wealth also in Chinese hands....hard to see any of that ending well. Aussies are the richest people on the planet, and they got that way because of China (not completely true, but arguable), and now they want to fight about it!

Yeah I've watched it. I can't think why it's so controversial. The capitalist business moguls have hijacked the green agenda/energy - so what's new? They hijack everything eventually because they have no creativity of their own. They depend on others for new ideas, businesses and then buy them up.
