(need more mortar mix for the underground structure............)

Tallen, every structure experiences erosion and cracks from time to time. your observation is as valid as the next person's here. all you're suggesting is more bonding, less cracking.

It isn’t slating when that’s what he’s actually done. That’s just stating fact. Be a different kettle of fish if he hadn’t done it. But he has.

It's exactly slating what he's actually done, and exactly what Johnny meant by public lynching.

But he has. on purpose? if so, then mods should step in privately to address this out of the public eye, but post some update of how the issue is being resolved. in my opinion, that fosters a more respectful and public face of a site.

edit: any site i ran or modded at would not have dealt with things this way. attention of deliberate wrong-doing would be brought to the moderators&then admin's attention and if there WAS DELIBERATE wrongdoing, steps would have been taken. *shrugs* doing this out here is messy and offputting to newcomers.

ok, i'm off to do stuff more interesting than to partake further in this particular piece of nonsense.

Funny because that’s exactly what Lobo didn’t do out of courtesy to the people removed either. And then people wonder why we’re kicking off.

It is true the DU site has a public face as it should, but there is a dark underbelly of bias decisions, voting, nominating, in fact, it infects almost all of DU.

I think the lack of communication and clarity is at the heart of this and many other problems. This site needs to be transparent, warts and all. Honesty even if harsh should be the first watchword.

Complaints to moderators: I think complaints to moderators about the content should demand a respectful reply, even if the complaint is not upheld. This does not happen. Also when a complaint is posted about you then on many occasions targets do not have the right to reply or a right of defence - it is an arbitrary decision some times ignoring facts. - good communication needed.

Last Years NAPO: Ever single participant got a warm personal welcome by the hosts. There was one exception who not only did not get one and was resoundingly ignored by the said hosts. Every one of his posts on the competition was ignored by the hosts. Hosts of all should at least park the personal biases. Sadly as the treatment dished out was so ignorant he has to finally bow out.

Competitions: All competition need to have transparency especially hosts behaviour in relation to excluding entries. Communication again is key. If a host does not think the poem meets the criteria he should at least message the writer or nominator to briefly explain why.

Hosts of all competitions should have clearly stated criteria then there is no real debate. I look forward to Josh and tallen's comps but would encourage them to lay down strict ground rules. I would expect Lobo to restate the strict criteria of the Poem of The Month. This protects the host and the entrants = Transparency

Clarification regarding NaPo'19 for the masses: Webmiss was completely aware of and understood the underlying intent regarding the situation. It ended up being the biggest and best NaPo ever! Just WAIT until you see what we have in store for NaPo 2020!

Thank you, have a pleasant evening.

butters said:well, this is how it looks to me, as a newcomer: shit happens. when people are in the mix, human fallibility's a given now and again.

october's comp looks pretty much a washout (WITH NO OFFENSE TO ITS WINNER!) due to unresolved issues which have pissed people off. did anyone offer to help lobo? (they may have, i do NOT know the background stuff) perhaps he was overwhelmed this time because of real-life crap and could have used some assistance. to publicly slate him seems dramatic but i'm all for well-run competitions/events.

pieces still hidden that didn't appear to break the parameters, and—maybe as significantly—that one piece appearing 3 times despite many mentions of it, all up as vote-worthy? yes, gonna piss people off.

but y'all need to chill your arses, guys. don't fight about it, sort it out instead.

:p

Ms. Butters, I will give you an analogy which hopefully will explain the frustration we're all expressing here.

About 3 months ago my boss decided to flip around my normal schedule of day shifts, to night shifts, back to day shifts, to mid shifts...and sadly with some of those night shifts there were no 8 hours in between to showing up the next day which is against the law.
I expressed my frustration to my immediate supervisor, then few weeks later i went to the boss herself and told her how determental the whole situation is and is becoming and her answer was besides alot of excuses...wait 2 more weeks and things will go back to normal.

I waited 2 weeks, i waited 3 weeks the same shit continued and i felt duped, fooled..so went to HR and it got fixed.

So here's how i feel this is parallel to my experience.
I feel this whole thread of poll, talking, exchanging ideas and expressing solutions..etc. Was nothing but giving us some sandbox to play making us to believe that we can actually build a foundation, solution, retraction to an overlooked mistake(s) and all the promise that the missing or hidden nomination to be restored was played upon us like a fool.
Nothing was done the whole time we were all here talking, discussing, partaking in the poll...nothing was restored, pulled back from the voting...nor given a proper explanation.
And if there are people on here feeling that host is not all that present at the site as is, how can he have full on attention to a comp he's hosting and especially creating this particular thread to be discussed and checks in on occasion..would you still feel that people are too haste in asking for someone who can devote more close attention so there are no blunders as huge as this one?

this clearly implies lobo might be biased and 'comfortable with hiding entries which meet criteria'
seems a pretty shitty thing to say, to me. if he IS guilty of this, then i reserve the right to be hacked off with that, too, but don't tell me that's anything other than slating someone. that dog won't hunt.

Hullo

Just to clarify, I have much respect for lobo. I've already said on AV's 'have I been a bad girl's thread Lobo is unbiest and a pillar of the place. I'm positive he'S used to the way I speak at this stage

if people are unhappy I think they should express it. its unfortunate they cant express themselves without being belittled

My idea of the comp, going forward, is to ask two dedicated members with a bit of time on their hands to run it. big responsibility, so I dunno what the webmiss would think about that

your quote is the criteria I would expect of the members who take it on (if applicable)  though, reading over it I can see where yiure coming from

I mean no offence to Lobo

This isn't the end of the world. It's a thread which asks us to talk about and vote on the parameters of the comp in the future

I think we have to be practical

Actually, it's really not, Craic.  One person could easily do it.  All you have to do the beginning of each month is change the name of the month. Paste the guidelines you already have saved into the comp forum with the change.  It all takes maybe 15-20 tops.  Then periodically monitor to ensure eligibility for three weeks. It's a site vote, so you don't even have to pick a winner.

Just request the public vote after double-checking eligibility, which won't take long if you've periodically monitored it every few days.  The thing literally runs itself!

I agree one person who is committed to the comp could do it. I am sure if the hosts need to enlist help they can do so, it's like most of the comps that currently exist

I understand,  but I think two people can inject energy and creativity into it, come up with ideas and such

That said, if one person can do it, I'm ok with that too. I'd love to see this resolved. it wont take much
