Heaven and Earth

( a Quatern )

I always have my head amongst the stars,
The times on zoysia in tropic climes.
The full moon’s zinc of silver’s phase ajar,
I drift into a lunar haze of rhyme.

A graceful zeppelin ghosting overhead,
I always have my head amongst the stars.
On zinnias and orchids for a bed,
The next stop in my dreams will soon be Mars.

I’ll live on clams zucchini, zwieback chars,
Become a raving zealot from the storm.
I always have my head amongst the stars,
And wear a jet black zibeline for warmth.

While drawing plans a ziggurat I’ll make,
I’m keeping shrunken Martian heads in jars.
A tower’s zenith leads to Heaven’s Gate,
I always have my head amongst the stars.

Some Zed`s

I though I would take some Zed's
Have a small doze and rest my head
But my stomach felt upset
It was the zucchini and zoysia soup
Dipped crisp bread of zwieback in the gloop
I was quite ill, felt quite grim
My being floating like a zeppelin
Not the zenith of the day
The hospital was in Mesopotamia
A ziggart mostly made of clay
The doctors prescribed tincture of zinc
So bitter that it made me wince
My head it swam. blue zinnias sprout
Fantasies of alphabet compete and shout
A to Z the poetry that were announced
Lavender pulled up its own roots
 White curtains of cold zibeline
The prelude signalled my decline
 My last hallucinate
The threads of life were run out
This zealot meets a nasty fate
SLIPed down to underground prostrate

To sleep forever with the invertabrates

24 hours left !  We need at least one more entry in this thread, be it a poem or just a comment, by someone other than Jade & Slip,  in order for me to put this into voting tomorrow —website needs at least 3 different people to post or a “too few entries “ error will occur & not allow a winner to be chosen.

Thanks !

Solstice

The arc of a solstice moon
is at its zenith overhead,

I race across dark emerald,
zoysia shimmering with zinc.

I leap from the ziggurat
To the spiraling tower steps,

And lunge upward, two by two
Winded, clutching blood zinnias.

Offerings of zwieback and
zucchini in my zibeline

A poor and devout zealot
Is all I am and what I bring,

When I reach the top at last
as a zeppelin cloud casts over

When the moment is at hand.

Downside Up

In a poem downside up is where I should start
But a zenith really belongs at the top
It's a journey that brings joy to my heart
Here at the end's beginning I won't stop
Turning to colors of silver and zinc
With the softest of ease the big blimp stirs
The airship begins to gradually sink
As I fly over the ziggurat of Ur
I'm keeping warm in furs of zibeline
Feasting on fresh zucchini and zwieback
I see the views of zoysia ever so green
Looking down at the ground past the tarmac
Adorned in colorful zinnia I ascend
Like a zealot I'm flying this zeppelin
Everything in the beginning is the end
If I see a world upside down I'm stepping in
Let me start...

the handmaiden's faith

on the zenith, I made special preparations
carefully harvesting my zucchini as an offering
a symbol of growth and renewal
I sang songs of praise as I climb the ziggurat

a zealot I prayed feverishly before entering the temple
my simple dress tied with zibeline as was customary of the day
the ancient rites were observed as I chanted

as my peoples before me, I believed
a great zeppelin would appear carrying me away to the heavens
I entered the temple with reverence

I took the zwieback in hand
saying prayers to the Gods
this was manna from heaven meant to open my mind
and prepare the way for ascension

the zinc pyramid shone brightly in the sun
surely the gods would come
I waited and heard nothing
perhaps my heart wasn't pure
maybe I didn't pray hard enough

I ran from the temple
falling down in the zoysia grass
I plucked a lone zinnia from the temple's garden
a reminder to my heart what would bloom only once then die

that day my faith in otherworldly gods withered
but my faith in myself shone bright

I never imagined I’d be able to write something halfway worthy & workable for the letter “Z”, my thoughts from earlier this year.  Now here we are, having survived the entire alphabet!

MadameLavender, I don’t recall when the letter “A” first posted, but I’m thinking it was late last year... did the series end up lasting a whole year?  Phew!  Well I thank you so much, you really outdid yourself!

And I thank everyone who voted throughout the series, and I congratulate all of you who participated in the challenge of our ABC’s!
