SLEEPAWAKEALOMA

/sleep-uh-wake-uh-low-mah/
verb - as in psychiatry:

-The subtle act of harming or taking one’s own life or the life of another - or other living beings - while in a deep state of unconsciousness – as one who sleepwalks. -

Awakening from slumber, I rise from the bed
One glance out the window, the moon glows red.
Digital time stopped ticking at six-six-six.
At a far-off distance, faucet runs drip-drip-drip.

A look at my hands, bathed in blood
Following footprint-trails of dirt and mud.
Heart racing…Heart pounding,
Echoes in my head repeatedly resounding,
“This must be a dream…It just has to be!”
I look in the mirror…and it isn’t me!
I shut my eyes in disbelief…
Open again…a sigh of relief
For, there I stand…back as me!

Sudden knock at my front door
My husband lays dead on the floor!
I see blood-painted curtains and walls
As a cackling laughter breaks out in the hall.
Whoever it is, I don’t wish to meet
So, like having wings on tired feet,
I run outback…
And soon collapse….

Awakening from slumber, I’m strapped to a bed
One glance out the window, the moon glows red.
The night nurse walks into the room
Lighting some candles announcing my doom.
“Tell me, night nurse, why, to this bed, am I strapped in?”
“Why, you must pay for your sins,” she replies with a grin.
“You butchered your husband, your cat, and your dog.
They found you, at last, beneath the fog.”

“But, I have done no such thing. I was not awake!
Surely, all this is a monstrous mistake!"
“There’s no mistake, but you weren’t awake.
Holds out better in court for your sake.
Killing while sleepwalking….it’s just another case of Sleepawakealoma
Now, kiss your life away; they’re coming….and tell your roomie I said, “Aloha!”

Poexual

I’m a poet
You’re a poetess
But we ain’t texting though
We’re connecting on a different level
Lyrically sexual
You’re into yoga
So I know your body’s flexible
But the way our minds bend
Shows our thinking is conceptual
Your intellectual
But we keep finding ourselves
Having poetry sex
The deepness in which poets feel
Our Sexual encounters
And explanations
In such detail
Has me thinking
That Solely
We could be intertwined
Soulfully

You know...

Poexually speaking

CHO! (STFU)

Growing up,
I was never one to argue with grandma,
Then again I was pretty much a smart ass,
But of the few times I ever gave her lip,
I quickly found out she didn’t take any sass.
The command that came from the little lady,
Was an unexpected and thunderous “CHO!”
It wasn’t Spanish or English, not even Chinese,
More like a coded shut the fuck up now and go!
My sisters and all my cousins also knew it,
At one time or another we felt the harsh blow,
It was like lightning fast reprimand not to argue,
When grandma got pissed off and yelled “CHO!”
And you bet we knew to shut the hell up,
Grandma always had the meanest look,
Still the origin of the word interested me,
Because I never found it in any kind of book.
Years later…
One night when I was frustrated with my boys,
It was past their bedtime and they still weren’t asleep,
After repeated warnings they kept talking in the dark,
I was mad, but this time I would not retreat.
I remembered grandma’s lesson and so I tried it,
I stood quietly in the doorway with a smirk,
And as they talked softly in the dark,
I let out a loud “CHO!” and it worked.

Thanks grandma.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and brought their best to the table! This was a really fun comp and gave me a few new words for my vocabulary. After recruiting a friend for help, here is how it worked out:

LunasChilld8, I loved your word Zodiacious and how you laid it out within the poem perfectly. You brought me to giggles and a bit of head nodding as well. Thank you for joining in with such a fun piece!. Congratulations on a well-deserved trophy win!

T_V_Walker, your poem was powerful in its simplicity. Proof that one does not need many words to convey a moment beautifully. Thank you for sharing your word with us. Your piece is still sitting within me, rerunning through my mind.  For this reason, I’m awarding you the first runner-up position.

Lyrically_Inclined, your poem expressed a feeling I’m sure we’ve all felt a time or two. And you did it beautifully. I love your word and have a feeling it’s going to be stuck in my head for a long time coming. For this reason, I’m awarding you the second runner-up position.

Honorable mentions go to Zazzles for your playful piece. Show those townspeople your mettle!  And to snugglebuck for your hilarious take on the comp. I loved the way you played with your word. Well done!

Thank you everyone for showing up and taking part in this competition. You all took brought me words I would never have thought up on my own. Thank you for expanding my vocabulary.
