Poetry Contest Description
Write a fantasy poem about trolls based on folklore / mythology.
So I have a soft spot for folklore, and was reading about some of the Scandinavian and Norse legends concerning trolls. I was surprised to find so many versions of the troll in so many myths and legends, so I thought I would start a competition about them.
Write your best folklore poem inspired by any of the forms of trolls mentioned in this Wikipedia entry:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll
Rules
* The poem must be new and titled.
* This competition is about trolls found in mythology and folklore. Any poems about ‘internet trolls’ will not be accepted.
* No word count, but don’t go excessively long. It’s just hard work for everyone involved.
* Please check spelling and grammar.
* Collabs, audio and video entries all accepted.
* Three weeks.
Any questions, please PM me.
Good luck.

Trolls: the melody just grips
An ominous low tone sets the troll scene:
The cellos and string basses then begin -
Plucked pizzicato style - fresh and clean,
The melody just grips, as each fine string
Joins in as the bassoons accompany;
The music seems to sneak its way around -
The accent on some notes will never be
As pronounced as the march and heartbeats pound,
So monsters find the pitch horrendous now -
So high - as oboes play and the woodwind
Section turns as one: intense, high brow;
But the excitement's mounting and you find
The timpani and cymbals will exclaim,
Repeating blows and thrusts (then my troll came).
(And rolled away to hear that final chord
Before he dragged me cave-wards - my reward!)

Huldra the Hulder
Brothers of the hunt beware
When stalking deer and bear
For among the tall pine timber
That surround Sognefjord’s
Emerald North Sea water
There dwells in this boreal forest
A most charming enchanting
Exquisitely stunning sorcerous
A troll known as Huldra the Hulder
Daughter of Loki and a Valkyrie
She’s a warrior and huntress
With eagle like eyes and
A thick shimmering mane
Of long scarlet hair
She has the tail of a fox
And the body of Goddess
Both a beautiful woman
And handsome beast
She is desperately lonely
With deep corporal needs
In a voice that siren’s envy
She calls to men like you and me
Singing songs that are beyond lovely
They beacon in sweet pleas,
“Mighty hunter, come make love to me!”
However, beware of her charms
For once you’ve fallen into her arms
You must quench this wench’s fire
Before satisfying your own desire
For Huldra the Hulder will erupt
In a tirade of horrible anger
And then you will suffer
The fate many of her past lovers
You, my young friend
Will become her dinner!

Tripping Trolls on the Roll
donkeys were trip tripping over the bridge
while the trolls looked up and thought
why couldn't they be donkeys too
and start their own hullabaloo
oh they need to be heard
they need to be known
the trolls just trolling
under the bridge
so they climbed up to the bridge
and started their walk back and forth
and back and forth on the plank-way
they taunted the donkeys
who just brayed and ran away
the cows who just looked bored
horses that disdainfully kept away
the trolls they were mad
so they started to pout
and they started to spout
all manners of stories
sonnets and verses fit
for the King's court
the trolls they sang their hearts out
told of fantastical worlds
and mysterious universe
delighted, their audience listened
enthralled with the stories
they started to cheer hip hip hooray
for the trolls the fancy trolls
who copied the donkey's brays
and all the cows little moos
and the horses neighing splutters
were in a frenzy of ideas
but after replays of a hundred and ten
tunes and verses again and again
the audience walked away
to adore altars of other orators
the cats, and dogs, the monkeys
crocodiles and kangaroos, they left
the trolls sputtered in anger on empty air
and slunk back to their grey domain
songs sad and lonely are still heard
from their home under the bridge
a repetition of pretty and fancy verses
but then they might be back one day
to dance their jig and recite their tales
to a happy adoring audience
...the tripping trolls.
