Poetry Contest

There are many experiences and interpretations of wonder. What is yours?
Amazement, awe, disbelief and wonder are as much a part of us as their counterparts. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the annoying, the saddening, the angering that we forget to appreciate the tiniest, most amazing things. Let's take the time to now

The Rules
  - Focus on the smallest, most otherwise-insignificant thing you can and find the
    marvellous in it
  - One submission p/p
  - Under 500 words
  - Rhyme scheme optional
  - Must have stanzas

Good luck and have fun!

Wonder

Mere stranger’s nod
a smile and hello
pedestrian crossing
car comes to a slow

Warm hugs of welcome
upon arrival
sweet smell of spring
tulips survival

Relationships built
by acknowledging respect
the melodic sound of language
a different dialect

Forever friends
where time has no place
modest souls
that offer grace

A place called home
resting when weary
all those that comfort
when eyes become teary

When silliness thrives
despite downpour
the music that lifts
and then an encore

Must not take for granted
such simple things that please
for with them spirits soar
with reflections such as these

Atlantic

Addles to my depths
Coursing currents so fine
Ice that seems pristine lets
Addled to my depths
The way I take easily a breath
Cold wraps you like twine
Addled to my depths
Coursing currents so fine

The Stars at Night

Whenever I doubt God or the existence of an afterlife
I go out and stare up at the heavens in the night
Awestruck I marvel at its immensity
Realizing there is of yet no understanding,
By science, of the true nature of infinity,
I come to appreciate that there is more
We humans don’t know than we do
And then I’m filled with wonder pondering
What will be our next great discovery?
And realizing there are greater powers
In the cosmos then we humans
I find myself filled with spiritual ecstasy

My Wonder

It is your smile and your laugh. When I think
We are nothing more than strangers, we
Have become something way more. In a blink

Of the eye you become the center of the sea
And the axis of my universe. I count my blessings
Just like the stars. I wonder how we have come to be

Where we are. You always make all of the stresses
Fade away into the background. With all the feelings
You have become a part of the successes.

Darling, we are breaking down the ceilings
That people told us we could never do together
And we have been honest with our dealings

Of this world. We get through the bad weather
As teammates and with positivity. I shake my
Head in wonderment, as you are my soft feather

And gentle hand, caring for the tears I cry
As I am feeling vulnerable. You leave me in awe
And speechless. I want to have it all until we die.

Wonder and Closeness

How does one describe
The wonder of the moment
The intimate feel of entry
With the closeness of our touch

Our animal urges have lead us
Towards this conjugation
Overwhelmingly sensual
With the closeness of our touch

Feelings become heightened
With thrusting  of the hips
The G-spot comes to life
With the closeness of our touch

The apex of our encounter
Explosion of our organs
Orgasming together
With the closeness of our touch

I some times
wonder why
im still alive
refusing to leave
until I feel
the wonder
come
from within
a place
I believed
once broken
forever denied

Ants

One of the tiniest land insects
But you can't help looking at them and marvel
From how they move in wonderful array
To gather their food or to battle

Following a strict chain of command
All ant sticking strictly to its role
Injury to one is injury to all
In togetherness to roll

Never selfish in their ways
Each work for the common good of all
Living nothing to waste
Seems to be their clarion call

They neither write nor talk
But their communication is excellent
Once one ant sends out a call
The response is hundred per cent

They seem not to have anytime for waste
Restlessly they work all day
Whoever falls is food for the common good
I wonder if they ever play

A wise teacher once had this to say
"Go to the ants you sluggard and consider their ways,
They have no chief no ruler
Yet store up for rainy days"

One ant can look so insignificant
But it's awesome what they can do
When they come together as a team
Everything to them is possible

Well the most amazing things
Sometimes exist without a sound
They simply live out their wonders
Like these silent rulers of the ground

Fantasy

I fly in my gossamer wings
Of pretty lavender tinged
With magic blue
And rainbow hues
I fly above and kiss
The passing winds
With their vibrant colours
Bursts of sunlight
In blazes of green
The blades of grasses
Tipped with gold
In my pretty garden

I sip rose syrup
From my glass
Cool with tinkling ice
Sitting on a bench
Among the flowers
I hear the bells from fairy rings
As they dance to the dusk
Where starlight shines on
In silvery grace
The ringed moon smiles down
In its evanescent glitter
Until the clouds snuff it out

When dawn does come
I awake to sunshine
Stark reality of food and rent
Of mortgage defaulted
Of water bills piling
And electricity bill appealing
For all unpaid dues
I long for night to come again
Away from worldly cares
To dream again
Perchance to dream
of being a pretty butterfly!

Happenstances

Do you ever ponder over the wonders of the universe?
The happenstances of the world and how they come to be,
The everyday incidents and coincidences we experience,
That influence our lives and fill our minds with curiosity.

I’ve often thought if life was perfect or without mistakes,
Or if I’d never been late or missed any opportunities
Would it have been as hard or challenging or defiant?
When facing giant obstacles with endless possibilities.

The infinite web of events that shapes us and makes us
It helps us define and find the goal line of our destiny,
For each in and every choice that we have ever made,
Come all the invariable consequences inevitably.

When I find lost items I try to get them back to their owner,
It feels like it’s not just the rational thing but it’s my responsibility,
To show kindness to a stranger, someone I may never meet,
But to put forth a positive vibe by demonstrating sensibility.

And it’s in these little acts of sympathy and compassion,
That can set things in motion for all the world to see,
That we’re all connected through these happenstances,
No matter how small but they can grow to a great degree.

when was the last time we kissed on the Corner of A Street?

When was the last time we kissed on the corner of a street
when it mattered the most? You say
why is it that when we age
that drift of sensual exhibition seems to drift from us,
an exhibition that knows no boundaries except
to exploit what we once innocently felt,
like an impulse waiting to explode,
then implodes from the inside out.
that used to be us. . .young, wicked, dangerous, un-wise,
un-visceral, un-universal, genuine angst at its unpolluted
but somehow we have become polluted with the
do’s and don’ts, the acceptable and unacceptable,
the conventional and unconventional of age
so why should we live by those fucking rules?  You grab
my hand and pull me close to you, and far from them,
in my mind you are still sixteen, and your kiss still tastes
of Marlboro mint faintly washed by a bottle of domestic beer
just like the night I snuck out of my parents’ house
to make-out with you beneath a lighted pole on the corner of a street.

I Wonder?

Will I ever fit in?
Will I always stick out?
Will they see me as I really am?
I wonder?

Will they want to get to know me?
Will they try to get to know me?
Am I really worth the effort
I wonder?

Will they find me annoying?
Will they find me pleasant?
Will they no be bothered?
I wonder?

Will they grow to like me?
Will they grow to love me?
Or will they just hate me
I wonder?

Should I even try?
Should it make me cry?
Why am I so sad and alone?
I wonder?

Is it me?
Is it them?
Should I re-load and finish them off?
I wonder?
