Poetry Contest

a competition to disempower hate in all it's forms
When entries I had written for the two current "fu*k obama" and "F*ck Trump" competitions were called out - rightly - for being seen in a way that was hateful, which was never consciously intended, I removed them.

It was then that I realized I wanted to do another kind of competition... because the trouble with hate is hate breeds hate...

When we call others to "F*ck Someone," we are Literally calling for that person to be raped...

and Figuratively - to be publicly debased and devalued - being made a sub-human.

Which really gives f*cking a bad name.

SO!

Here's the theme of the competition:

negate "hate" - in any and all of its forms...

Here's the competition -
- two weeks
- no more than two entries
- all entries will be judged - by me - on three criteria
    *quality of the poetry
    *consideration of the subject
*and pursuation of the opinion offered
- any poetic form - but no prose
- I will ask the mods or miss to put up the "adult content" warning, so feel free to express yourselves...

I am tired of living in the land of "good Germans" and "us and them..."
If I may quote an old comic strip Pogo:
"I have seen the enemy, and us is them..."

Last Things -

The competition is for poetry that denounces hate - so hate filled poems belong in the other "f*ck..." competitions. And it's about poetry not comments.

Poets who choose to include hate filled verse and/or comments in this competition will be disqualified...

get to work, citizens...

good writing -

Who

There's home; the blue marble
We're so lucky to know,
From afar and serene
Like the void all around.

And who are we, we ask
Didn't we used to know,
Before we could read
And had words we could see.

Before great walls were built,
And few had many more
Take crude sticks to our necks
To order us bow down,
Grovel at their scrotums
These self-proclaimed men.

But wait.  Didn't we know
Who we were all along,
Before we were crowded
And corralled,
The genocide of
Generation
By generation.

But more of us came,
A clueless flock
Or so we were told,
While styrofoam cups
Were passed all around,
We all drank the poison
From reticent lips
Of reticent minds.

Pretending
To do the right thing
By these little men,
Once again.

But by them being small,
What did that make us?

In the name of their god,
Not ours they defiled
Slashing and burning,
Held back by their dams
And pipelines,
And the free air was taxed,
Summarily exiled.

Creating new light
Their mushroom fire lord,
And called it the sun
Like none that we knew,
And the killings continued
Of the faceless,
Because we were told;

'Your god has no patience
With heathen like you,
You'll only be cleansed
To do what we - I - say
To follow - me - mindlessly
And you'll learn what, and
Who you are
Before you're sheared
Then slaughtered
By each other's hand,
Because I can't be bothered
To be soiled by the masses
For I washed my hands
Of you
A long time ago,
But you still keep producing
Multiplying, it's sickening,
Like your kind needs to be
Around
When all it does
Is give me a reason
To think of more ways
To fill my coffers with ore
And put you to death
Without lifting a finger!'

Our kind.

And who are we, we ask
Didn't we used to know,
Before we could read
When the scribes were all killed.

There's home; the blue marble
We're so lucky to be,
From afar and serene
Like the void all around.

BREAKING BREAD

(a sonnet)

What’s wrong with Kansas? Less than we first thought!
The Lord does move in ways perhaps unseen.
Too often cops and crowds seem battles fought,
In Wichita, they chose a different scene.

Instead of helmets, clubs, and riot gear,
The cops manned grills cooking dogs and burgers.
The protesters then put aside their fear.
Both ate and danced, that's how progress occurs.

Too long we stood as if it’s us and them,
Spent too much time making foes of friends.
Too long our little diff’rences condemn,
Spent too much talk defining hostile ends.

I hope this shows when all is done and said;
It’s easy to join ranks when we break bread.

I hate Hate

bruised black and blue
from a punch in the eye
coloured in the shape of a 'U"
brilliant rainbow hues

a sad tired man's punching bag
the child who looked at him
sadly with understanding in her eyes
he wanted to wipe the sad smile off

blood gushing down her nose
splattering on green banana leaves
creating patterns oddly beautiful
she wanted to show it to her art teacher

holding hands with her best friend
telling how many times she felt
his foot on her tiny body
the day he got  blind drunk

they shed tears together silently
vowing to one day leave
and love someone whose fists
won't be raised in love or hate

the child grew up and left
she forgave those who hated
embraced those who loved
one day she couldn't find hate

the memories of those long ago beating
is so faded now I hardly remember them
although at that time a week respite
from beating was such a wonderful thing

I have forgiven my father
for without him I would not be me
I respect and am grateful to him
as he fed and clothed me
until I could do it on my own.

Vise

I am so sick of inability
To breath free with stability
Awareness everywhere and danger
I keep the mask of "normal" stranger
Always here to help to escape
From mine world to where all is same
What for to be a fake player?
For others, for yourself - betrayal

I grab those iron edges
That keep my destiny on stages
- What to do? - To live with them
- So never be happy? What's the sense?
- Forget on your own, calm down,
Do what you must or go to the ground
- But soul wants to fly so!
- It can't go there. Worst sin of all!

"Sin" those say who have seen
Truth only on sacred pages within
Where all so deep, not open
"But we read" they all have spoken
And no one knows how long it will get
For them to understand what it had said
How many people and when
Can get free from vise around them?

Drinking Narrows  Reason

I roamed
The minds of the few
In narrow land
Where dogma burned
A bonfire of credo
Lit by torches of ignorance

I felt mans pangs of consternation
And pules of defeat
Sharp in my tummy
My affinity ached
The few were so thirsty

In narrow land
Fear ruled
Kept pedestrian logic in chains
The many hoarded equality
Bacame fat devouring sovereign fruits
Ennui turned and reached

I felt the cold grip of tyrany
Its plump fingers
Struggled to choke the singular
To suffocate Autonomy
And the scuffle became war

In narrow land
The thirsty drank desire
Until quenched by this elixer of hope
The few fought valiantly
And they were mighty

Escaping hate

Hate must begin with an action before it grows into a faction. True of false it gathers
traction, but lasting hate is mostly reaction.
While only justice gives satisfaction, their is some hate to base your facts on. Like hating Nazis or papparazzis. To hate the slaver does the slaves a favor. Pollution deserves despise to clear our filthy skies. To escape the hate our actions must not berate...
