Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
Punk'D in the Frost
An image of azure in the night,
A hazy place blinding with star's light.
A well of heat that softly glows,
Plunders warmth from the deepest souls.
Inside this forest of sleepless plight,
Sacred hymns of distressed mind.
Not realizing yet losing everything,
We lost ourselves craving the dream.
Countless pale nights have gone,
In this world of inescapable menace.
Silently braced in our faltering faith,
Lost days of happiness towards death's last grace.
Differences are easy to find,
Days of affection still far...
A hazy place blinding with star's light.
A well of heat that softly glows,
Plunders warmth from the deepest souls.
Inside this forest of sleepless plight,
Sacred hymns of distressed mind.
Not realizing yet losing everything,
We lost ourselves craving the dream.
Countless pale nights have gone,
In this world of inescapable menace.
Silently braced in our faltering faith,
Lost days of happiness towards death's last grace.
Differences are easy to find,
Days of affection still far...

Crisp waters as morning fog rises
With the sun of today reflecting
On memories of my progeny
All awaiting for something
I wish I knew
All the voices echo through the
Canyons like electric pulses
Stimulating stillness internally
Rising like rainbows rippling
The supltley in today
Yesterday is galling from burden
Bare on my skin, musty and old
Now black green checkered balm
Sifting sand in aging hands
Motionless in this matrix
Garland's ecapitulation urges
For our tenure is not over ...

Taos
I had sojourned to New Mexico
many times before.
Visited Albuquerque
Santa Fe;
but never made the trip
the sacred pilgrimage
to finally Alpine ski here.
Till now.
Staying on the bald mountain
clinging to the slope
feeling the powdery hope
of the new fallen snow.
As I sit in the village square
totally aware
of the sorcery of this winter.
How it makes my thoughts splinter ...

a ode to the frigid winter
as winter leaves the grasps of my hands
my eyes leak of tears
because winter is my comfort
everyone's favorite season is summer
i prefer the cold abyss of winter
in the winter the cold air kisses me
a soft comforting kiss
that tells me that im ok
in the winter the snow hugs me
and wraps me with its 20 degree love
in the winter its normal to stay inside
its ok to wallow in my room and cry
its ok to hide
jackets are customary in the cold months
i can hide my insecurities
and blame it on the...

Between Winter and Spring
Chilled air shivered through twilight's dancing curtains
Spring held to winters forced dreaming
like a greasy residue on ennui
Under frostnip's haunting cruel lighting
Frigid whispers of abandoned hope
echo reflections of lonely shadows
basking in stoic contemplation
As Boreas sighs death rattles against Iduna's rosy cheek

SUDDEN CHANGE OF SEASONS (11-27-2002, Galveston Island, Texas)
a cold front suddenly
popped down
overnight
sticking its frigid
nose
into late novembers
business
two weeks of radiant
blue sky
joy
now completely devoured
by mauling roar
of last nights
howling north
winds
now this cold damp
slab
of concrete gray
encases and dulls
what only
yesterday
was raging beauty
of all those
autumn
leaves
which filled and
waved
in every tree
changing colors
set ablaze
in spectral dance

Being with Each Other
Late winter
Early spring
The bog
Where we meet
Reading poetry
Drinking wine
Being with each other
Alone with nature

Wintery Games
The morning rises
again surprises
with a bluff of snow
on the disheveled porch
Like the high watermark
of some wintery tide
spilled on in
to sign its drifty name
Funny some think winter
standoffish
cruelly cool
bored or aloof
While ignoring the proof
of her playful side
like a childhood denied
during the corporate climb
Her slinging marshmallow fluff
all over our stuff
just to slow us down
...

Drifts
I love the flow of the snow
like so many frozen dunes
a desert of icy cold
bejeweled with crystals
Sparkling in the February sun
pale yellow in the afternoon
ready to retire soon
when nightfall does arrive
Losing me to be found
forever snowbound
in a wintered corner
of an overheated world
Life slowed to a trudge
seeming unable to budge
from my overstuffed chair
underwhelmed by the chase
Relishing the slowed pace
of this snowed in world
my path now curled

Midwinter Blues
Midwinter Blues
My muse is quiet.
Midwinter blues.
Look forward for my wild prose
to thaw.
But I am listening to
my friend Judih’s radio program.
Boozy chanteuse
Optimism blossoms.
Biden president and a rover on Mars.
My muse is quiet.

Muffling
They like to fall
no ... to dance
prancing all around
the frigid wintery morn
like a feather pillow
fully burst
open
filling the pale February sky
seeming so fragile
yet
able to finally silence
everything.

Dusting
It leaves the night
like a dusted crime scene
yet so pristine
with its white crystals
A light coating
of powdered sugar
to sweeten up
this most bitter winter
Glistening in the moon
longing for a spoon
to help me measure
the melting moment
like a dusted crime scene
yet so pristine
with its white crystals
A light coating
of powdered sugar
to sweeten up
this most bitter winter
Glistening in the moon
longing for a spoon
