Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
In the Fold of the Cold
If wishes were trees the trees
would be falling. Listen to reason
season is calling” ~ R.E.M.
Winter has a certain charm
as it goes arm and arm
with my light daydreaming
Recalling many warm springs
recalling certain things
that still have yet to happen
Locked away here inside
where cold air slivers aside
through windowsill cracks
Curling itself all about
setting the stage for doubt
with all of its certainty
While I try to thaw my ink
let my quill then sink
all the way...
would be falling. Listen to reason
season is calling” ~ R.E.M.

Winter Solstice…
The sun is low with pale shadow
stretching out these trees
long lazy fingers
reaching way back
reaching towards the past
for a summer to last
far beyond Adonis days
when the strong midday sun
had only just begun
to first feel the fall of autumn
stretching out these trees
long lazy fingers
reaching way back
reaching towards the past
for a summer to last
far beyond Adonis days
when the strong midday sun
had only just begun
to first feel the fall of autumn

The Wild Side of Tame
two figures
waiting patiently
for the whisper swish
of a sliding door
rush of cold
upon entering
their eyes bright
their coats glistening
tiny diamonds
gathering
at my feet
beautifully wild
and tame
waiting patiently
for the whisper swish
of a sliding door
rush of cold
upon entering
their eyes bright
their coats glistening
tiny diamonds
gathering
at my feet
beautifully wild

Poetry, Nature, and Beauty
In the vast lands where the spirit finds freedom
Where the mind can, its deep caves, fathom
Down by the tall rocks that go up into heavens
Flowers in row, with dewy beads, are woven
Here the spirit can stream like deep river
And the heart can throb better than ever
The eye can fill its orb with life's beauties
And the ear to hear the elements' ditties
Nature's music chimes with forms that vary
And shades of paints fit the smell that carry
Shapes round or long, tall and some...
Where the mind can, its deep caves, fathom
Down by the tall rocks that go up into heavens
Flowers in row, with dewy beads, are woven
Here the spirit can stream like deep river
And the heart can throb better than ever

Glacial Scars
Tracks of blue in plains of white
lead me now to deeper insight
of the ways of this world
of the secrets of myself
For as the polar cold does unfold
it shares all these mysteries untold
tales of deep fears
trails of lost tears
Each a long clear trace
across this most sacred place
lead me now to deeper insight
of the ways of this world
of the secrets of myself
For as the polar cold does unfold
it shares all these mysteries untold
tales of deep fears
trails of lost tears
Each a long clear trace
across this most sacred place

This, eve of winter..
Backed upon an incessant stance,
Leaning in with wind kissed skin,
The wash,
Rises,
Enlivening.
Lifting,
With a present momentary push,
To make the most of this twilight song,
This,
Eve of winter.
Running silent through the frost bitten moor of snow,
Silent, but for her dance,
Playing out across exposed grass.
Out towards,
The stand of cloistered trees.
Who's ruminating branches now near devoid of leaves,
Voice approving trembles from their staves upon her breeze.
It's the sight,
The sound,

the festive season can be rough
hibernation seems the only proper reaction to this time of year I’m normally snuggled in bed with a foul cold and a cough

Flannelized
Flannel sleeves
Silken cuffed
Warming threads.
Softness soothes
Cold shivers,
Now toasty.
Bundled snug
As a bug
In wool rug.
Warm body,
Mellow voice
Fair words kind.
The right kind
Of warming
From within.

Hibernation
There are a few ways
to make a cocoon of your body,
to accentuate the length of the spine,
to make that affliction look barbed
and monstrous, to lean on the left side.
There are few ways to handle
a minor embarrassment,
or mishandle, or miscommunicate
or spiral from orbit and out
into the stars
and drink up the aether
like it was pina or wine.
There are less ways to walk back,
to tread the exact path you wandered
when an amble felt loose
and disconnected from fear,
before the dusk was setting in,
before the...

Lady Winter
Such sights to behold on the cusp of winter's fold
Her chilling breath takes my own in a sigh of wonder

Icy Waters
They seem to have a way
on this cold Antarctic day
to liberate the breath
liberate the soul
So clean and pristine
in their polar blue
with a wisdom old and new
meant now to share
But only with those who dare
dream within their icy stream
on this cold Antarctic day
to liberate the breath
liberate the soul
So clean and pristine
in their polar blue
with a wisdom old and new
meant now to share
But only with those who dare
dream within their icy stream

Antarctic Blue
A most delicate and subtle hue
this my Antarctic blue
now a blend of sky and snow
soft as a wintery whisper
Across snowfields ever crisper
with these deep frozen tears
shed for yesterday and tomorrow
for all the joys I sought to borrow
Knowing with every breath I take
another reverie I shall then awake
this my Antarctic blue
now a blend of sky and snow
soft as a wintery whisper
Across snowfields ever crisper
with these deep frozen tears
shed for yesterday and tomorrow
for all the joys I sought to borrow
Knowing with every breath I take
another reverie I shall then awake
