Attributes of Mars Incarnate
Valor
The first of virtues, bright as flame
A spirit born to carve a name
Through battles fierce and trials dire
Valor stands, a golden fire
It knows no fear, it bends no knee
For in its heart, the soul is free
A crown of light upon the brow
The warrior’s pledge, the sacred vow
Fury
A tempest wild, the god’s own breath
The storm that shakes the walls of death
Fury rages, swift and true
Its fire is blood, its lightnings flew
Yet in its heart, the truth concealed
That through destruction, strength is healed

Queen Marie Laveau
Marie Laveau I hear your name.
They praise you in the streets and have no shame.
You hexed the good and gave love to the wicked.
You even healed the sick and conjured one way tickets.
Spells and chants still that last.
And voodoo dolls that shaped men's past.
There's no other like you, even the devil took notes.
The honor would have been mine just to hear the words that you spoke.
They praise you in the streets and have no shame.

Skin
Feel comfortable in my skin
My skin is flaking like I’m a Mummy
I see the cells in my epidermis
Clock is ticking but I disagree
In the long stretch of a Kentucky Derby
Camera flashes looks like we have a photo finish
A nose just above the finish line
You are crowned with Roses
But I feel comfortable in me
Fireworks in the sky above me
I crawl back into my skin
My skin saves me from bad weather
In the final quarter we are striding 12 legs strong

old bloke in the pub
an antiquarian, with such a thirst,
or possibly a hunger, for the
collection of objects from the
past
few years
haven’t been
easy
for you to say
get a proper job, but
if you give me a cup of tea and a
bag of chips I’ll tell you all about the origins
of the legend of robin hood ..

Off all bonfires the fire
After the celebration around the bonfires
the witches usually disperse
taking with them the energy and magic
they have gathered during the ritual.
The flames begin to die down
and the heat from the fire fades into a soft glow.
The witches, still shrouded in a cloak
of mystery and power, begin to bid each other farewell.
Some may exchange words of wisdom
or small incantations for protection and good fortune.
As the night progresses
each witch makes her way
perhaps to a nearby grove or to her hidden home. ...

Sacred Beauty Broken
people
are my religion
the ones
broken by society
the ones
that tried and failed
one more scar to claim
only to pick themselves up
over
and over again
these
people are sacred
the ones
honoring life
to find meaning
in the fight
living
in a state of grace
to stand within the storm
using their scars
as a roadmap to the stars

WHAT IS THE SOUND (10-27-2019; expanded reflections on a classic, old, Japanese, Zen Buddhist koan; Palm Springs, CA)
what is the sound
of one hand clapping
perhaps the same
of two hands not
what is the sound
of one hand washing
perhaps the sound
of water doing
all the work
what is the remedial
echoing sound
of your grievously frustrated
innermost longing
for all the things
you most want in your life
but presently
do not have
perhaps the more ...

I Pledge Allegiance to the Disco Ball
I've asked for some things for my new classroom
and have gotten some of them.
I haven't gotten the extra bookshelf.
Or the Post It chart paper.
Or an American flag,
large or small.
Instead
when the vice principal
leads the Pledge over the PA system
my class and I face the blue disco ball
I got for $5 at Five Below.
We really like it.
I believe in sparkly objects
that catch and amplify light.
I believe in beauty.
It's a great icy blue color.
I believe in my country
minus the guns, ...

Stepping With The Ancestors
Ohio State University what a beautiful campus, such great hospitality.
The Fraternities and Sororities made me so proud. This is a very nice college to invest your future in. This college offers Health and Mental Services for all students.
Thank you for the universal love

My Confession
My confession is I'm the lesson.
I take the heat, and I burn.
I'm still stressin'.
I'm not pressin'.
Don't want anything in return.
I want you messin',
With my breasts and...
I want you sectioned.
Or upturned.
My confession.
Is the lesson.
It's the word, that is the bird.
I take the heat, and I burn.
I'm still stressin'.
I'm not pressin'.
Don't want anything in return.

A fucking white male
So privileged
Far right misogynistic
Extreme family man
Nazi ad infinitum expelleleosism
The solution to this white stain?
Replacement
Or total annihilation?

Glory for Rations
There was an outpouring
Time used and not spent
down slots
Of old machines
Where the jackpot was kept
Within the cage
Rolling... it rolled
By vision not not
not fear
Did our fingers tremble
tremble tremble
From exhausted sinews
And the gaze over taped up spectacle
Was a vertical one
The vertical expanded
the horizontals' possibility
One of our own ...
