WHAT IS THE SOUND (10-27-2019; expanded reflections on a classic, old, Japanese, Zen Buddhist koan; Palm Springs, CA)
what is the sound
of one hand clapping
perhaps the same
of two hands not
what is the sound
of one hand washing
perhaps the sound
of water doing
all the work
what is the remedial
echoing sound
of your grievously frustrated
innermost longing
for all the things
you most want in your life
but presently
do not have
perhaps the more
deeply resonant
innermost whisperings
of simple heartfelt gratitude
for all those things
and countless blessings
you may already
have in your life
but which you also now
may have
somehow come
to presently
lose temporary
sight
of
the subtle key
answer and trick
both to
and through which
true manifestation
of any
and all possibilities
potentially lies
and can only
occur
in a
good way
which cannot
be found
through one s egoic
thinking mind
alone
but rather
even more so
can only be
sought co created
found experienced
and lived
successfully through
simply learning
to more keenly
more fully
listen and trust
one s intuitive
gut feeling s
natural instincts
as well
as to
the brighter guiding
inner light
of one s deeper
innermost truth
which can
only be found
and felt within
one s own
open joyous heart
as one continues
journeying on
throughout this
ever mysterious
ever challenging
great uncertain adventure
we re each and all on
and still presently
experientially living out
as best we can
with whatever
natural talents
knowledge skills
gifts tools
and dreams
we may have and hold
hid deeply inside
innately within us
or not
to more freely share
and uplift
as many others
in this world
as we can
here in this
most magically
wondrous journey
we re all on
here in this most
amazingly incredible
truly ineffable
ongoing
great mystery
called
life
