I'd Forgotten Our Past
Where did these memories go...
I wasn't surprised you told her our past
You're honest to the core like that
I remember being young and in school
We were friends but we were the kissing kind
Knowing that you're not meant
to be with someone that you love
It is such a heavy, heavy feeling
Fuck, I know that feeling so very well
Sometimes you have to let people go
Sometimes you can keep them in your life
But you have to let go of the what ifs
Being your friend is worth that period of pain
Seeing how she makes you so, so happy
I...

Your book
We all have a first chapter to begin our book or our stories
Growing up in certain territories,
Getting labeled into different categories
People to fill the pages of your story
For the beauty and the world gories
It comes to times when you feel that there is nothing to write
Nothing seems to be as bright
You're stuck in this fight
In your head, you're saying this isn't right
Despite the dynamite
You know that your story will come out alright
There will no longer be any bombs in your head left to ignite
and your...

I Escaped, But Only Just - Part 17: The Start Of Real Danger
The first sign of trouble came with the ringing of the front doorbell halfway through a Saturday afternoon. A couple of girls stood there, aged around sixteen or seventeen.
‘Yes, hello?’ I said, frowning.
‘Hi,’ one of them said. ‘We're Jane and Wendy, friends of Nicky’s.’
Their names sounded familiar. Nicky attended the Jewish Youth Club on the corner of the street, but wasn’t Jewish himself.
‘Do you want to come for a cup of tea?’ Jane said.
A flicker of unease. A girl with long ginger hair looking out at me through the front...

I Escaped, But Only Just - Part 16: Family Strife
Get to bed,’ my father yelled after another row at home.
‘I won’t,’ I said. ‘It’s not even half ten yet. You can’t tell me what to do. I’m not a kid.’
He jumped to his feet, his face white with rage, and I took a step back. Already, the images were playing in my mind…him leaping towards me and grabbing my hair, clenching his fist to strike. I bolted from the room before he could do any of those things and ran up the stairs to my bedroom, his voice booming through the house.
‘Bloody lunatic. One of these days, I’m going to sell that piano of yours and...

I Escaped, But Only Just - Part 15: Rebelling
I started Sixth Form College, studying music, sociology, drama, maths and English, along with piano and cello. By half term, my enthusiasm for study had waned as my new social life took priority, and I soon stopped the cello lessons.
At some point early on, I received my first invitation to a nightclub in the city centre, even though I was only sixteen. I went with a friend. First, we stopped at a city centre pub for a few beers. Then, we made our way to the nightclub.
At the nightclub, the bouncer stared at us. ‘How old are you lads?’

The Angle of Incidence
The Angle of Incidence
An experience,
However
Temporarily
Escaping
The daily
Run
Of the mill
Routine,
May
Feel
Well
Worth it
If the angle
Of incidence
Covers
The gap
Between
The unnumbed
Reality
Of stark living
And that
Pounding
Sense
Of mindless
Security
That
Comes
In the wake
Of turning
Off
The accountability
For the life
Someone
Seems
To have made
For...

Parenting Monopoly
Oh, bother.
I forgot to write a poem today.
I was busy rushing around my house -
up and down the stairs,
in and out of rooms -
on a seemingly endless cycle
of repetitive chores.
Days like this feel just like
an unproductive game of Monopoly.
Instead of properties to collect,
there were socks to match,
towels to fold
and uniforms to find.
Being pay day,
I could finally settle some accounts,
pay some bills,
and buy some essentials.
However, there is going to be...

I am here and
I am moss
And I am lost
And I'm at a loss again
Marbles flying down the staircase, becoming a dangerous environment to walk across
I'm at a loss and
The steps have overgrown with vines
"Whyd you stay if you hate your life?"
I knew if I left then-
I'd probably
die

Farts and Cheese
I asked my girl for a poetry cue;
she told me, “farts and cheese.”
I guess I’m lucky she didn’t say “poo,”
but seriously, kid?? Geez!
It’s not that hard to write about farts
in a house full of Crohn’s Disease,
but I’m not quite sure I have the smarts
to relate flatulence to cheese.
Shall I write about cheese that smells like a fart?
I’ve encountered some of these…
But it takes a different sort of art
to depict farts that smell like cheese.
I googled the words, just for fun
to assist with this uphill climb. ...

May I comprehend doubt
The lies and thoughts that ran me a fray
I'd leave a piece of me to pave the way,
In time
Let them take my place
where I've begun to fade
...I'll watch them grow
while I smile in their display
I'll be their silhouette today
But when they begin to shine
I'll take my step behind them
And enjoy their shade.
Oh baby why don't you go out and play...
Take my wisdom
and change the world into a better place
Be better than I can
Be better than I am..
The struggles I've found ...
The lies and thoughts that ran me a fray
I'd leave a piece of me to pave the way,

A Lover and the Lack Therof
I saw you out of the corner of my eye
I barely noticed you at first,
My god, you really look different around your friends
I could tell you hadn't seen me yet
Your smile was undeniably bright
(As per usual)
And your laugh sounded gregarious as ever
Always the center of attention
Easy to be cool when you're the only one old enough to buy alcohol here
I happen to linger a bit too long
And suddenly our eyes meet,
You a deer in headlights
My heart nearly exploded right out of my chest
Both of us clearly terrified of the...
