I Pray It Never Rains
The fire extinguishers, though
in flagrant red, you see only
when you lift to sweep under.
The CCTV screen gets glanced at
a few times a day, while
insects flit and flash white,
and nervous-necked birds eye the lens,
but the streets in camera view
do not delight the village gossip.
Those smoke alarms in every room,
stay eager though mute, promise

On your way out of the house,
you pause by the doorway

I cant possibly count how many times I've said those words
There was a time when I meant it
Can't remember the last time that was
If anyone would give a fuck its me

About everyone
Except me

The weight of everyone else hangs on me

Help Thy Neighbor
The neighborhood got together and helped watch each other's houses to try and cut down on the crime that plagued them
Every night, one of the residents would make a sweep of the neighborhood with his car
Signs were put up in the windows of every house saying that there was a Neighborhood Watch in effect
The effect worked
The crime rate went down drastically
One night, one of the residents actually made a citizens arrest
He caught a burglar trying to break into his next door neighbor's kitchen window
Later that month there was a block party

I worry
Waking from a restless sleep
My mind is immediately filled with thoughts
Three kids on her own
Deadbeat dad
Trying to be strong
Working hard
Overwhelmed
Five heart attacks
Congestive heart failure
Body failing her

From Dark To Dim
I think its pretty clear from my writes
The dark subject matter
That I was in a really bad place when I found DU
I needed an outlet badly
I needed to know that I wasnt alone
I was wallowing in self loathing
Death seemed like the only relief possible
In a little under 2 months this place has become quite a boon to me
Seeing others show support and share how they relate has been so therapeutic
My blunt nature and direct approach got me into some trouble
I briefly walked away because I questioned if I belonged here ...

Keep Swimming
Watching her go through this journey
Seeing the strength she has even at her young age
I feel honored to even be a small part of the growth
Im amazed at how she has managed to keep her kindness
She can turn to the darkness understandably
Yet she loves and cares for others
Even in the absence of feeling it herself at times
She reminds me of my daughters and I don't want her to feel alone
She reminds me of myself and how much I wanted my dad to love me
I know she has so much to offer this world
I can't sit by idle...
