Retired Souls In Rhyme Confide
I fear as I drip my word
Teardrops would be overheard
No verse shall set its rhythm or whine
I dread my anguish is seen as I rhyme
Whatever deep into my soul unable to mute
I wholly surrender to the magic of the flute
To bring the sublime into the mundane is insane
My world of poetry, in your glossary no word for strain
Blind to the divine truth we wander astray
Tempted by sick feelings we fall an easy prey
Of all the stages, one and only age
When the Self falls into the clutches of rage
Granted is the time to ponder and reap ...

Wake Up!
Time marches on, relentless, unstirred,
Unaware of events,
Events that might alter
The very essence of our shared realm.
The cosmic web shifts, threads anew,
Neither the present
Nor the future
Can claim certainty's helm.
A mist obscures our collective sight,
Save for a few who stand in the light.
Fed with spoonfuls of crafted tales,
Our minds shaped to fit their scales.
We wander through life's foggy veil,
Like somnambulists on a well-trodden trail.
Conditioned beings in an endless cycle,

the future that this became
is not so bright and shiny

Love Letter from Joseph
January 26, 2024
Lauryn,
I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the love we share. We're not naïve. We see our pasts littered with mistakes and missteps. I want you to know that my love for you is unconditional, a force that transcends the errors of yesterday.
You know this about me by now. I've taken love from many women not because it would be lasting or right but because it was easy. Yours, however, is a love that is right. You guide me to a better version of myself. I've wandered down paths of convenience, mistaking physical connection for...

Raise the wolves
Raise the wolves
Hold back oceans, tear out walls,
march to the capital, burn it all down,
someone light pyres,
someone change laws,
someone believe women
like their fevers are more
than sailing through tides,
storms - all that matters.
Someone drum the Moon dance,
someone stir the pots,
tend to the harmed,
tend to the healing
and hold it,
like an elder might,
watch hungered embers
rise ever higher,
smoke colliding with a soft-pink sky,
feasting on those
who crashed our world's right...

not a prayer
prayers for those
trapped by
war
prayers to feed
the hungry
prayers to house
the homeless
prayers for those
suffering from
addiction
the funny thing
about prayer
is that without
action
they are a lot like
a car without an
engine
they just don't
go
anywhere

Plum juice
Plum juice
The wasp hears tribe in her body,
burns like the center of a matriarch's wake,
sings on fantasies of honey,
curls her wings, flits into bitterest night.
I've thought seldom on pity,
where the city holds casks of sweet cider.
She scents for it, and the actualisation
of a pint surpasses the idea.
You take a picture,
yet the picture never lasts in the mind,
she sends a warcry,
one that never reaches your ears.
Her warriors come gathering,
sisters and brothers buzz.
She's trapped...

Dreams echoes and vibrations
This dream is now yours
know this to be true
I am but a bit character that someday will not be
To perhaps be a rose known as nemo
Surely that would put the bard to rest?
However I am rambling whimsical nonsensical
Kiddo daddy never stopped thinking of you
so much catching up with the constraint
So little time
To be honest I would not know where to begin
The first few years with you
Joy
Then those years long apart, scarcely an echo
empty silence would cause many to...

Common Sense
I’m not the type of person to wear my heart on my sleeve
You can pay a soldier to fight, but you can’t pay them to believe
What’s right or wrong? War’s about who’s left and not who’s right
Just another cold hard truth with a particularly nasty bite.
Facts don’t care about your feelings
The quicker you accept it the easier will be the healing
It seems like I’m stating the obvious
Yet I’ll keep hammering it in until I’m victorious.
Seems like common sense has flown out the window
The path taken up until now has left me in limbo ...

What that dust did
I come from the north side
Then I kept that east known
But I been on my big boy
I call the whole city home
I been trying to guide the kids
Trying to call my city home
Used to feel so lonely but
This ain't a thing I did alone
Universe been proud of me
Like, look at what that dust did
I don't know my own worth
Guess I have to trust it
know that it's a process
Trying not to rush steps
Trying to learn about love
I used to think it suspect
I know you know I walked here
I learned how to fly tho

As Time Goes By
(I remember all of this)
For too many years I’ve ran and ran
On treadmills
On dark and lonely boulevards before dawn
I’ve been welcomed by cool breezes and beautiful sunrises
I’ve been greeted by other runners going their way
And then
For months, I’d slide down an idle path
I’ve gone for hours on early morning runs without music
Listening to my breathing
Hearing my thoughts out loud
I’ve also rocked to tunes with beats pounding
Only to run out of breath when the rhythm was too fast
(Gotta find the right...

Gaza
With whole families in an instant snuffed out
I know that there's no fortress sound enough;
no wall, no border, and no keen redoubt
which would ever convincingly rebuff
all that the forces of hate may compel
to cascade down upon the open meek;
all of the elements of vassal hell
predisposed to turning an abject cheek,
and by such a turn to press an attack
that no old combat honor would condone.
Only the faux virtuous brainiac,
who was by the risk all too crudely prone ...
