darkness flows
spreading thin
like maple syrup
sweet
and suffocating
sticky
oozing filling
nooks and crannies
calming
daylight’s frenzy
prey and
predators
camouflaged
in shadow
cloaked
in silence
brief rustles
and growls
life and death
indistinguishable
