april song 05—infantile
thus the specimental blueprint
nurtured by umbilicus
comes to terms with awesome foot-sprint
whose Seed shall deliver us.
infantile—complete but helpless
—in the milk of human care.
shall He bloom blood-red and selfless,
with whose love none can compare?
is the crown of thorns too prickly
for the innocent of birth?
does the Cross bring death too quickly
to redeem a fallen earth?
could the seed of every woman
save the seed of every man,
fate would fashion an in lieu plan ...

Chapter 13 Inner Struggle in the Church Pew
Chapter 13 Inner Struggle in the Church Pew
“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures…” Galatians 5:19
As Brittney heard the scripture read, she felt a whirlwind of shock, guilt, and fear. As the pastor continued, she couldn't shake the feeling that the message was directed straight at her, exposing her deepest secrets and desires for all to see.
The mention of "sinful nature" and the consequences of following it sent a flush of embarrassment creeping up her...

april songs: journey of life 4
april song 04—foetal
offspring of a fallen father,
well might every child aspire
not of broken genes to gather
harvests of unspoilt desire.
post-coital foetal pleasures
nurse the womb of every mom
whose gestation days are measures
of the days of femme et homme.
through the dark, unfolding ages
of the journeyings of man,
comes the Ransom for sin’s wages—
liberty for everyone!

april song 03—embryonic
he cannot rescind the order
of his freewill compromise
who makes void the sovereign border
that restrains the worldly-wise.
embryonic ill is fatal
to the unborn innocent
who does not pursue postnatal
rectitude with bold intent.
well might he the father’s grapevine
nurture with its bitter ink,
or else walk hope’s trim and thin line,
though he teeters on the brink.

Chapter 10 - Prayer at the Park
Chapter 10 – Prayer at the Park
David had left early for work. They’d both been tired the night before, but Brittney felt rested after her shower and a little breakfast with her girls. It was a beautiful day and they reminded her they wanted to walk down to the park.
While the Bella and Grace played, Brittney looked at their flexing limbs as they climbed. Bella was 8 years old and Grace, 7. She marveled at the beauty in their faces. How could so much of God be held inside such little parts of his creation, she thought.
She whispered...

Birth #1
Eighteen summers back
I forged the silhouette
of a love bird
that chirped
with fledgling strength
Her lyrics and melody
fashioned a layered truth
from the language of stars
And wild mountain flocks
Etched their way through
the heat and pressure of clouds
turning the carbon rocks
into a pool of diamonds
For nine long moons I stretched
Into the shapes of limbs and wings
Fierce and graceful
a baby dragonette grew
deep within my belly
I beckoned the flocks
to...

Post-Childhood Self-Mothering
Post-Childhood Mothering
I wrap my body
around the body of my unguided youth,
the child who wept at a speedway, lost, on their own,
who saw photos of her sister long before she met her,
knew her Father's name
only by the name she decided
outside towering Old Bailey,
who knew the affliction of errors in white crochet,
man's hands before knowing how to soften them,
fear before fear had a face,
dreamt of warriors and peaches and bicycle rides,
experienced life upon life upon desert -
held and rocked and fathomed ...

value of intentions
I don't know whether to feel proud of myself
...or ashamed
I worked so hard all those years
masking to hide my pain
protecting her from the knowledge
so perfectly she never suspected
and now that it's come to the surface
she's asking me tough questions
and I can see the hurt in her eyes
that I suffered & kept it so quiet
but it was imperative to me she live her life unaffected
as normal as could be expected
never thinking how moods & occasional withdrawing might affect her
it was just the 2 of us for so much of her...

Wild Mother
My roots grow deeper
Into soil I never intended to plant myself.
My dandelion seed settled
As a weed growing into a wish
Broken into pieces by a child
To begin the journey again.
Into soil I never intended to plant myself.
My dandelion seed settled
As a weed growing into a wish
Broken into pieces by a child
To begin the journey again.

Regret
affliction dear please afford me this confession
assorted pain dances in my mind tormenting me
the ghosts of my children's childhoods
I see their baby faces
not enough food to sustain their grumbling bellies
they still visit me in my resting state
I see their young faces knowing I failed them
they haunt my existence I see threads wait more like nooses
troubling the present trying to hang them
none of my grown children want anything to do with each other
too many bad memories
still basically living in poverty ...

rearview reflections
funny how sometimes I look back at events in my life
it's like watching a movie on the big screen
thinking...shit...that was really me
it shouldn't be so surprising...
I was there...but was I really...
I guess that's up for debate
at the time I was so focused on survival
didn't occur to think of it as traumatic
flashes of the past blasting into my conscious
who even knows what caused it
standing in the parking lot of an old wig shop
a location chosen because it was so ridiculously random
suitcase at my feet & 4 year old...
