Coffee Apocalypse
Coffee Apocalypse
Rowena lands a gig at a surviving coffee shop to keep her panties in the closet and stay clothed for the camera. I show up incognito to all the baristas but Ro.
Ro’s boss says “This man is a dedicated recycler and you got him a fresh lid for his refill. You must make it up to him.”
“Oh. Gladly, what must I do?”
“Go into the closet, get on your knees, and beg for his forgiveness. Then kiss and make up.”
“I love kissing strangers. At Mardi Gras, I share
my lips like a madwoman.”
“Don’t forget your job is on the...

Vegan Vampires
“What is wrong with physical pleasure?”
“Your obsession with my lip sugar is a hunger kind of like a vampire’s craving. Maybe I should bite my lip and draw blood so you can enjoy the
kiss all the more. Why should I read Bram Stoker when I have a living Dracula for my husband?”
“You don’t see me salivating at the blood bank.”
“Hey, do you want garlic with your lasagna?”
“Of course, no pasta is complete without garlic.”
“You aren’t a vampire because those creatures are repelled by garlic.”

She Was My Hot Tomato Heaven Scent
“Hey this is the commissary kitchen and I am a cook, not a skin flick actress.”
“You wouldn’t really knife me.”
“It is a butter knife as a show of force but harmless. You aren’t afraid of a mere woman are you?”
“That blade could scar me for life.”
“You are acting like a girl. Be a man and quit fretting like a woman who broke her fingernail.”
“If you put down that steel I’ll give you a kiss.”
“Making a pass at me is pretty daring for a man

Forces of Nature
Today, we are wed
Under warm rain shower
Upon a cold forest bed
Autumn leaves hang heavy
Dripping in celebration
As we’re joined in fusion
Where woods are wet
Today, we are wed
On pungent moist land
Soil damp with our tears
Some sad but most happy
That tell our long love story
Fondly remembering
The journey we’ve taken
Today, we are wed
And I couldn’t imagine
Treading any forbidden path
Through this labyrinth
Or tracing a map
Of any other trail
Than...

the wanderer
The Wanderer
His marriage was of the middle-class type
the house bought years ago had trebled in value
which his wife liked to point out.
Of course, few people actually own a house
as they pay the mortgage, ownership is an illusion.
He was an average man with a good job, lived
a good life, fucked his wife every Saturday night
after drinking wine when the loins stirred.
He was not happy he was sad, thought life
had a better thing to offer and walked away.
Through towns and villages, he wandered to find
the elusive that gave...

Her Mandala Heart
Her Mandala Heart
Her madras-sea of blue kimono dye
is not a book for the casual reader
From whose blue feather pages
She peeks like a bird from her nest
With robin sky-egg eyes
“She is like a fresh powder of Bavarian snow
who wore a wreath of edelweiss flowers
Before a teary bon voyage
to the merchant colonies of Japan
as a bride to the samurai
her pale complexion
is a natural kabuki
who is the cherry blossom spring
of his wife”
Knees at the heart of the mandala rug ...

Alpine Lovers
Alpine Lovers
My wife touched me with her soft shower of love so gentle that I found my way out of my labyrinth of solitude and into a blossoming more springlike than imaginable for my hermitage of the heart. Like monks in a Buddhist monastery, we follow the snowmelt in golden silence. Like moonwalkers, we use sunglasses in the white glare. But unlike their boot prints which last billions of years ours in the snow last a lazy summer’s afternoon.
The sun sinks crimson over the icy peaks. We wander through alpine meadows with knapsacks over our shoulders. The wind...

The Beauty Of Us
The beauty of us is our goals
How we strive for eminence and success
The way we focus on the completion of tasks
Honing our skills to create and conquer
Writing our stories through our experiences
The beauty of us is the friendship
The time spent learning about each other
Many days and nights of crying and laughter
Being each other’s life line to not drift away
The walls we brought down to open our hearts
The beauty of us is the relationship
Complimenting each other in words and actions ...

Baroque Evenings
Baroque Evenings
Under the turquoise sky
I remember your blush
As the poetry of your smile glowed
Where my love found home
Warmed by the love in your eyes
Like a nightingale song
Your timbre touched my soul
And your freedom became mine
On snowy boulevards
Where memories of you
Are scattered like cherry blossoms
Little hearts whose beauty
Lives on through the brushstrokes of an artist
Met by a brass ensemble of angels
At the gates of Katmandu heaven
Where lamas sing baritone chants
To welcome...

57th Anniversary
If Mom and Dad had lived, today would've been their 57th anniversary. They were married on September 25, 1965. Dad was almost eighteen and Mom was seventeen at the time.
They were so young that they had to have their parents sign for them to get married. Somebody interrupted my grandfather's dinner to tell him that Mom needed him to sign so she could get married. Papaw told that person to let him finish eating his hot dog and he would sign. Two years after getting married, Mom gave birth to my brother. Almost four years later, Mom gave birth to me in 1971.
