Judith's Place
On a brisk September evening many years ago, I remember visiting my grandmother's house on the island. Fall seemed to be peeking around the trees. The once forest green door on her front porch was chipping paint, revealing an orange rust. As I opened the door to enter, the worn-out hinges moaned a crackling tale. I felt I was witnessing the history of how many visitors, guests, and loved ones had walked through that very door.
I could hear a woman humming to a Willie Nelson song, the sound sweeping in on the fresh evening breeze. The recognizable smell of spices and herbs welcomed...

"home"
home;
i don't even know....
it's not what it seems;
it's not the place one wishes
it could be....
home;
an illusion of stability;
a place where most would"kill" to be;
the rug underneath one's feet-
snatched away from lack of "currency" or due to dependency....

Ceilings and walls of tenuous sleep
Blankets are a thin
Membrane
Against the noise
And the chaos
And the cold
Yesterday, sunlight and commercial
Music at the mall, where
Those of disposable means are
Casually tossing coins,
To the metallic yap of a
Plastic toy dog
I see them,
Groomed and adorned,
Having learned and strove
Through the capitalist systemic
Calculus
Of have and wont and woe,
I admire them
That perseverance,
That sharp toothed priority
Of self and those whose well...

Two-thirds of a tin of gloss paint
Two-thirds of a tin of gloss paint
seeped, unchecked, all over our landing carpet;
leaked through the railings
and trickled down the stairs.
Once a busy mass of browns
with a pattern purloined from a public house,
rivulets of paint turned our carpet white
and now the air turned blue.
It's not clear how the tin was dislodged
but I discovered the catastrophe
when I trod in something squelchy
while making my way downstairs.
I'd left two tins of paint stacked there
along with sandpaper,...

An Odyssey
An Odyssey
A fiery necklace of jade stretches down her throat during their goodbye kiss. When he boards the gangplank the beads sink into her navel where they ignite. She says, “If you come back maimed I will take care of you. If what you saw haunts you, I’ll exorcise your demons with my touch. If you return to me as a corpse I will keep fresh roses on your grave. But please give Agamemnon this note I wrote for you that you are married to a woman who will surely perish of heartbreak if you come home in a casket.”
“He would call me a coward.”

Wanna come home
I wouldn't mind dying
If only it'd
bring me closer to the truth
And Id be lying
If I told you
I could somehow
make it through
I wouldn't be here
if I said
I never would
But you know
Least I can say
Ive done all that I could
Taking all of the bad
Hoping to make it good
Getting back to your love
And all That its made of
If you could reverse the hurt,
could you?
If you heard the tears here on earth?
Would you ? ...

Down the unpaved path~
Years went by while I cascaded through the unknown.
Faking it to make it or to just feel that part of society that was "supposed to be".
Numb yet smiling, steps were taken daily and years went by. The anger faded into regret and the love faded into vacant dreams.
Just then, counting down the days of existence with clouded eyes, heart and soul the sun shined through. Moving the grey aside and showing me a light within that dropped me to my knees.
By giving away my power so many times I simply forgot who I was...who "I am".

Home Sweet Home
I have been living on my property forty-five years today. I moved here on February 25, 1977. When I moved on my property, I was only five years old and Elvis Presley was still alive. If I live for another five years, I will have lived on this property for half a century.
My forty-fifth anniversary of living on this property has landed on a Friday and as it turned out, the day when I moved here in 1977 was on Friday as well. After living here for that long, I consider this place to be both important and special.
It's amazing how much the price of land increases over the...

Houses
a house is meant to be loved,
to be moved-into, to be lived in...
to love in, and to die in,
to be buried in the backyard under a lemon tree,
with a simple grave
and it is not a grisly thing,
the youngsters point and laugh
'grampa's in the leaves now!'
a house covers and creaks
shakes in a wind
and in a storm, leaks
a house smiles and sighs
certain smells swirl in certain segments,
you open that cabinet door and breathe in the air from the last...

The stories on my desk
Starring at my messy desk, covered in movies, Easter jelly beans, a bent up fork , medicines, a bowl from a about week ago, a can of unopened soup, a dusty mirror, my cats old collar, a wooden pose doll, 3 electric candles, an old camera, 2 cups full of pencils, an open unused mini sketch pad, a brick of glass with a cat photo attached, a broken glass heart, a library card, and a box I can’t open.
Why did I tell you all that?
Because no one else can.
Each item on my desk is there because it has a story.
After all, that’s why I have them.
