Secrets - The Night He Fled
Late on Sunday night, I fix a mug of coffee and update the secret journal. I'm not a psychologist. I don't know why people block out memories or reinvent them or conveniently stash them away in the hope of forgetting, but I've been remembering more stuff this evening – stuff to do with Gordon as a boy and an incident on the estate that caused tension between his parents and mine. Meeting up with Gordon again has somehow touched on this other stuff.
New Entry:
I'm not sure when the event in question occurred, perhaps a year before the murder, but definitely in the middle of a...

we are immortal
It's my best friend's birthday
and I sent her a text
saying
"happy I'm-glad-you're-not-dead day"
because her Peter Pan complex
demands I not remind her
that every year she's getting older
And her inner child might be
eternally switched on
but she somehow does adulting
better than me
though we both wish
we could just say "fuck it all"
and run off to Neverland
where responsibilities go to die
and imagination is free to rule
Her complex...

valentines bouquet
a taxi stops as I stand
by my window wondering
who will come out
a young woman
bearing a huge parcel
I open my front door
reach for whats inside
flowers, a beautiful
round shaped vase
with floral petals
at the bottom
the four letters
of his name
on a small card
I place the coverage
in my hallway
oh wait there is more
a little teddy bear
wrapped in plastic
holding a mini box
of chocolates

And now a true story
My childhood friend Kirby and I once hypnotized a frog in the summer of 88. We found a rock on the lake's shoreline that looked like an emerald. We believed the rock had super powers. An hour later, we found the frog. We began rubbing the rock on the top of it's forehead. It was amazing. The frog was hypnotized. (We thought) We weren't sure though on how to unhyptnotize the frog. Instead, we kept the frog and fed it to Kirby's German Sheppard, named Bear. That was the 1st time his dog tasted frog! 'oui oui'
After Bear had lunch, we went inside to see Kirby's Grandma. This old...

TAG, YOU'RE IT! _ with "Vision_of_insanity"
They played a fierce game of tag all of their lives
From as far back to childhood through to their later years in life
Tag you're it
Now, tag you're it!
The game was harmless, but both were eager to tag the other throughout their lives
Even when they were married & had families, the game went on
One of them fell ill a few years back
Even so, wheelchair bound and sick, he would tag his friend gleefully, like he did for over 70 years
His friend was saddened but thought he'd bounce back
He never did

Secrets - Kerry
Can't you get a taxi?' Mel says when I phone to tell her that I'm too drunk to drive home.
'It will cost a bit,' I say.
'A few pounds.'
'I just feel I should sort this business out with Gordon while I have the chance.'
'Fine. Well, have a nice evening with your friend.'
She hangs up on me. Definitely cross. I join Gordon in the pub again. He's sitting with a large group of twenty-somethings, professional looking people, in the main room, talking about the gym. The receptionist with the henna coloured hair is there, playing...

Secrets - A Tense Conversation
We sit on the car park wall opposite Gordon's studio flat. The night air has a calming effect that leaves me exhausted, although perspiration continues to stream from my forehead and down my face, soaking my jumper and t-shirt. I take off my jacket, place it by my feet. Seeing this, Gordon gives a nervous laugh.
'Hey, peace man. No hard feelings. I hope you're not going to ask me to fight you.'
'No,' I say.
'That's good 'cos I don't fight mates.'
Tiny stars dance before my eyes. I feel dizzy, as if my blood pressure's dropped suddenly....

Secrets - The Pub Evening
When he goes to the bar, I ring Mel. Her line's busy.
'Hey,' Gordon says when he comes back with the drinks. 'Get this down you.'
The din in the next room gets louder. Music blares from the jukebox. A group of girls in their early or mid-twenties stream into the room where we are sitting, with bottles of wine. They call out hello, then make their way back out to the main area of the pub, giggling among themselves. One of the girls turns round and blows a kiss at Gordon.
Gordon starts to say something, but I'm no longer listening, just...

Secrets - The Pub Evening (1)
After supper, I make the journey to Gordon's, reaching Burrington at around eight thirty. I park by an apartment block opposite the town's main car park, near the river. Gordon lives in a first floor studio flat, he told me yesterday on the phone. I press the buzzer.
'Hey, Al,' he says, grinning back at me when he appears in the ground floor lobby, more padded out than the last time we met. His hair's shorter and the blue t-shirt he has on shows off loads of muscle, more than before. His eyes are smiling too. I get the feeling he's dying to throw a punch at me just...

Tasty Dick Drops at Fia's Oral Shop
Walking into a small cozy store that is very deceiving to the eye. Walking to the woman at the counter.
“Hello, is Fia here?’
She nodded and called out, “Auntie, come to the front. Someone’s asking for you.”
Fia walks out with her hair tied up and a pink scarf around her head.
“Hey, how are you? Come to the back. I am working on an order.”
She had the same smile she always wore.
“I haven’t seen you much since you opened your shop.”
“Who knew that Fiaberry ChapStick would take off.”
“Yeah, I heard.”

Secrets - Freddy
The gym in Burrington draws me back and I go to see Gordon Day again. We arrange to get together for a drink at the weekend. Mel's far from happy when I tell her, especially as I promised her I wouldn't. Hoping to calm things, I take her and Robert out for dinner on Friday evening, sticking to soft drinks so she can enjoy a glass or two of wine with her pasta dish, but I can see she's concerned (and annoyed too) over my renewed contact with Gordon.
Saturday, we spend most of the day rambling near the hilly mill town of Hebden Bridge. The weather's warm and windy. Sunlight trickles...
