travel to Porto
On the way to Porto for a week's holiday, we drove through a pine forest a man planted forest the way each
stood at a respectful distance from each other
A year later in high summer, the forest took fire and
when flames met on the road, cars were trapped and many people, and families, died in the horrific hell-fire.
Our hotel was situated at a height, we had asked for a downtown hotel, my wife said it was my fault since I had tried to speak Portuguese- not far from a disused water tower, it's gated surrounding full of rats where every night hideous screams were heard in...

I Gave U Life
I gave you life when I implanted my seed
But you only know me when you have a need
I concede with trying to show you the light
I've accepted that it's another futile fight
I'm sure your mother delights in destroying our bond
You're the only thing she has of which I am fond
She's the conduit for the bullshit that has manifest
Yet, class is still in session; will you pass the test?
I've rest my case and will no longer plead
Jury's out as I wait for what the verdict'll be
You'll have to make me a priority instead of a convenient...

the last time I saw my father alive
he smiled and huffed
in that way of his
when he was trying to express tolerance
or simply amused recognition.
he’d awakened to find me sat
at the end of his hospital bed
reading a book
and called me to sit closer by,
so I moved to the head of his bed
and then with tubes in his nose
and nothing on below the sheets
he drifted back to sleep.
we’d spoken before about his guilt
that he hadn’t been a good father
and I’d said in mitigation that
mum hadn’t been a good mother.
he laughed at that, ...

Lyric 5
My childhood was filled with a bright little girl,
She was sweet and had silly little curls.
She’d spend the evenings reading in bed,
with a book in her hand,
and the world in her head.
She’d build figures out of lego,
but she never wanted to let go,
of the One Direction fish she kept in her room,
next to a Harry Styles doll with only one shoe.
I used to skate in the car park right next to my house,
hold on to my Dad, so I wouldn’t fall down.
I’d ride around on my bike, and bruise up my knees.
We’d bake cakes and...

Let You Go (The Tears Are Burning)
Waiting by the phone
Ripped up another letter
Cancelled another call
Deleted one more text
God, you act like I was never there
Waiting by the fucking phone
Waiting for another "how ya doing son?"
Nope, not a fucking word
So, one last time
I can't do this anymore
I can't take it anymore
Tired of breaking my own heart
Ripping my mind apart
Give me a reason to stay!
Give me a fucking reason to stay!
You like to think I never watched to see the inbox fill up
Like I never wished you good...

soft reflections on paternal love
“Fathering is not something perfect men do,
but something that perfects the man.”―Frank Pittman
i loved my father with a special love,
as if a soldier, burnishing his boots,
were looking at a glowing from above
that penetrated life back to its roots.
he was not giv'n to suave romantic airs,
nor withering, soft-spoke words that had no spine;
tough love, whose bristles melted into cares,
poured forth as embers from his cutting wine.
his discipline was handsome as a sword, ...

"Just kill me!"
"Just kill me!" She screams out.His arm bent out of its socket. She squeezes it even harder.
"Oww! He says. Turning his face away from her.
"Just kill me. Please!" She screams out again.
Clearly pushing through the pain.
"Are you going to participate in?" She hisses at her partner.
Perfectly in synch,he thinks. How long does it take anyway, until my children, has a new sister?
We already have ten girls. And two boys.
We cannot continue,to have anymore children.
It's far...

Love is the same and opposite game .
Love takes and gives. It’s hate and like and tolerance .
It’s loud and silent when it’s in a mood and wants to teach a lesson or make its point as it was either hurt or annoyed . It’s new and old it’s all about the two of you desperate to spend time together. It’s also did you put the bins out and fill up the dishwasher and make a cup of tea . The expansion of more two children under the age of four . With a bank balance that aches as much as two parents do who are tired to the bone with a balancing act of up against it financially and mentally and how many times have I asked you just to...

The Tree Outside a Child's Window
My child is not even a year old
Playing on the floor with books
Not reading like you or I
Just flipping through the pages, obsessively
As I lie on the carpet nearby
Looking out the window with the curtains drawn
I see the Tree swaying slightly in a breeze
It has filled out over the years
with an abundance of branches and leaves
It was a sad and struggling sight early on
I didn't think it would make it through the winter freezes
Or the summer droughts
Boy, was I wrong
What I see now fills my heart with joy
I...

A new conception
Two mammals form a pair bond
The basis for monogamy
Friction against a membrane
Producing a sensation
Stimulation leading to a release
Contractions propel cells into tubes
Searching for fusion before they die
An ovum is penetrated
And fertilisation begins
Developing over a period of months
A heart begins to beat
Vibrations of sound can be heard
Footprints and fingerprints form
Eyes can open and close
A water breaking
Signals the start of labour
A dilation reveals...
