Easter
Late night poetry --
Inertia has struck again
or maybe it's just the chocolate
or the comfort of this couch
Sitting with all my kids
and their significant others
watching - of all things -
The Prince of Egypt.
They always loved the humour
the animation
the music...
I made them come to church
for the last time today.
I don't expect belief or reverence
-- don't have much of that myself --
They're finding their own
versions of faith now
maybe
Just wanted them to remember

Kalamazoo Kathedral
Kracked-out, Kolostomy Konnection in Kalamazoo
Don't try and find me here
Last time I was in Kalamazoo
Someone tried to finger my rear
Kracked-out, Kolostomy Konnection in Kalamazoo
Kathedral has no flock
Last time I was in Kalamazoo
The priest tried to suck my kock
Kracked-out, Kolostomy Konnection in Kalamazoo
My backside is red and raw
Last time I was in Kalamazoo
My aunt is a part time whore
Kracked-out, Kolostomy Konnection in Kalamazoo
Religion is never on my mind
Last time my mother got naked here ...

Down by the river
My one regret is the bloodline I derived from
I’m not a pedigree or a monkey’s uncle
My father is a penniless swami
My mother is a peace creep
We live up the river,
near a civil war battle ground
When there is a downwind,
the water has a polluted, toxic smell
A few years ago, I needed a pair of glasses
Never received them,
No insurance, no money!
My mother bitch slapped me a few times,
thinking that would help straighten my eyes out
Now I have short eyes!
Fuck, she’s dumb.
My brother, who is three years younger, ...

Grief Isn’t Always Complicated
I think I’ve been preparing for the inevitable
We all are
We talk about it with logic and reason
As if that will soften the emotional blow
I’ve been preparing poetry in my native tongue
So that she knows how much I appreciate her
How much we love her…
She once told me that after she lost her two-year-old
Back in 1950
She didn’t cry
Like some kind of numbness washed over her
That although she felt sorrow and sadness
Stoicism helped her manage
While still taking care of her newborn
We somewhat deduced ...

Savage Daughter
There’s nothing like a parent’s pride
When they witness the strength in their children
When in difficult times their resilience comes through
Whether it’s a reflection in their upbringing
Or an observation about their character
And nothing makes a man more happy
Then to see his daughters thrive
Whatever comes their way
I know they will be OK
Because they have their mother’s toughness
Their ancestors’ spirit
And the freedom to be themselves

Sorrowful grace today was hopeful
Visiting my kids for Easter
a road trip out of town
would brighten my mood
Back to my hometown
Good memories of my childhood
playing all summer and climbing trees
riding bikes and hanging out with friends
My hometown was much safer then
It's becoming a bigger city now
and rife with danger
There are still pockets of good neighborhoods
My mom lives in one of these
The houses literally look like the Brady Bunch house
The block seems stuck in the sixties ...

The Inside Place
It’s a thing, right?
when we see our children
heading in a similar direction
as we did long ago
hoping that they listened to our advice
or at least take into consideration
the scars we bear
maybe it’s a trend?
One where we have to let them feel the burn
and let them learn on their own
because life’s lessons are more impressionable
when they are experienced first-hand
maybe I worry too much?
maybe this is also part of the parenting process
letting adult children find their own way
while all you can do is...

Games
One of my favorite pastimes is games
Board games, video games, card games
Almost anything you can think of
They are a perfect escape
From super easy to extremely complex
It's hard to find a game I do not enjoy
I love the adventure they take me on
And the endless laughter with friends and family
We get into so much shenanigans
And create many inside jokes
Some games I enjoy all by myself
With a cup of tea, a snack, and my heated blanket
Either way, games make the perfect vibe

Rarely did I receive even a tiny tidbit of history
World War Two took a heavy toll on many
Okinawans looking like the enemy
forced to speak their language
on the spot, killed if caught
Okinawan
To this day, my Sister adamantly says
we are Japanese.
Guessing it is more fashionable
we STILL look the part
I used to fill out forms and go with that
if I thought I would benefit
Now days, it’s either or
Asian or White
I kind of can glue a mish-mash lore

A Chance Encounter
Chapter draft: A Chance Encounter
The Drury Hotel in downtown Saint Louis buzzed with the energy of the early morning. The clinking of silverware and the low murmur of conversation filled the air as guests shuffled in and out of the dining area, fueling up before a day of conference meetings. Jacob, a solitary traveler with no agenda but to explore the city, found himself amidst the hurried crowd, sipping his coffee and observing the flurry of activity.
At a nearby table, a young family caught his eye. Rachel, a woman with a gentle smile and eyes that held questions, was...
