she left more than scars behind
Some days I hate myself
like my reflection hasn't changed
in 15 years and I'm still the same person
who held all her lies
like they were precious gemstones
that could be compressed
into something honest
with enough time, pressure and love
But she didn't love me
couldn't love me
when she was too busy
chasing more interesting demons
than a quiet lover at home
and then resented me
for chasing my own adventures
Some days it feels like karma
like I'm forever paying for who I am
it's just...

four of us teachers were talking
we rarely have time to do that
we never even use the teachers lounge
too busy making copies and calling parents
two of the teachers were male
both admitted their students have seen them cry this year
mine haven't
amazing
i'm a huge effing crybaby
but i've chosen anger instead

A letter I will never send
I didn’t know you until I was 10 in year 6 and all I wanted to do was please
I did that for a while but your anger was a volcano and it erupted
so I switched from please to appease
I listened hard and I tried to become the daughter you acted like you wanted
I got violent just like you I went by your name I got involved in dangerous situations knowing stories of my name would be carried back to you
I thought you would be pleased as I had done what you wanted
instead you took your rage out on me and the damage you caused I would never let you see
I did...

Brandy has never been so broken hearted
You became a comedian
And I became a laughing stock
... I honestly have no idea what is going on... I can't stop my mind from getting flooded by thoughts of you
.... My eyes raining tears down my face like a hurricane
... I am in a devastated state
I can't stop the sad songs from playing
I can't stop the love songs from taunt
I couldn't stop you from leaving...
The days seem to get darker the further away I get from you like I'm walking the opposite direction from the light at the end of the tunnel.... ...

Shower Breakdown
I arrived smelling of seawater and sweat from the heat of the Spring day
Sand in my hair, scalp itchy and body sticky from the ocean’s salt
Insisting we shower together, I detest, such a personal action
You convinced me slowly, unzipping my dress, removing my clothes
My walls are still up in many ways, I trust you but I’m unsure of your reasons
I am scared because this is such a sacred and private activity for me

Petals of Sorrow
Sweet love blooms
blossoming under the warmth
of another’s affections
Yet loss is embedded in veiny stems
Threaded with the truths of time,
all decompose in the end.
Even the purest and profoundest of love,
loses glimmers of shine over time.
But if you leave beauty
where Mother Nature planted it,
it’s spoils birth new life.
If cut down,
displayed in a vase,
it’s vibrancy slowly fades,
it’s purpose becomes a waste,
and it decays in vain.
Out of selfish gain
you cut her stem ...

Falling Flat
You were it for me. You were the one I wanted to marry and I had never felt so sure. You know how you ask people how they knew and they say “You just know.” It was just like that. We were a definite match and no one could tell me otherwise.
We never argued, never fought. You were goddamn stubborn but I’m patient and we balanced each other out.
It felt good and I was proud. Telling all my girlfriends, soliciting advice for rings and dresses. I didn’t want anything big or fancy or even to involve many people, but it was exciting to talk about....
