A Path Unwritten (a poem for NaPoWriMo 2020)
Here we find ourselves again,
victims of a creeping tide.
Dropped to our knees,
bestowed.
Racked by a promise
to tease words from soul.
Sheaf them in primordial text
with no remedy or reform.
A sacrifice, a ritual,
unfaltering grip on bloodied heart.
Offering up morsels
to appease the passage of time.
Too simple, too easy,
until the walls venture closer.
The painstaking chip, chip
to break the yoke.
Must not give up,
for there is ripe fruit to bear
and a fellowship to advance ...
victims of a creeping tide.
Dropped to our knees,
bestowed.
Racked by a promise
to tease words from soul.
Sheaf them in primordial text
with no remedy or reform.
A sacrifice, a ritual,
unfaltering grip on bloodied heart.
Offering up morsels
to appease the passage of time.
Too simple, too easy,
until the walls venture closer.
The painstaking chip, chip
to break the yoke.
Must not give up,
for there is ripe fruit to bear
and a fellowship to advance ...

I Do Talk
Hi
Hello
The stumbling block
To my social interaction
Can’t let go of fear
On an ever thinning line
Where sanity is blurred
I communicate in my own way
Off the beaten track
Just behind normality
Sometimes feels
I should do more
But this fickle mind
Plays by its own rules
Dictating all responses

Dimensions
You take the fifth
distilled and delusional
drunk, disorderly and disrobed
fallen to your knees you plea
and pretty pretty plead
your prayers
to multiple dimensions
boots made of stone
you can't run
no directions nor diversions
you can't hide
naked
you abide
songs ring softly in your head
you're alive but somehow dead
life's flashes of brilliance
seem less brilliant
light walks away from you
but you're not through
darkness beckons your pain
in a devil...

Novel
( a contrapuntal poem )
He looked into the dark of Internet
And found a huntress who wrote poetry.
She gazed at him with longing and regret,
He also sighed and felt they’d never meet.
But stranger still she could not realize
He too supposed he didn’t have a chance,
The competition coveting his prize.
She put a pen to verse the words that dance.
Then back and forth a week of poetry,
Would his desire turn into a play?
But like the flower to a honeybee,
To go to him and give her heart away.
He looked into the dark of Internet
And found a huntress who wrote poetry.
She gazed at him with longing and regret,
He also sighed and felt they’d never meet.

But like the flower to a honeybee,
To go to him and give her heart away.

To be “right”
verses
To be “kind”
I will ever choose the latter.
Meditating amidst a flood
of my own choosing
wondering, does it truly matter --
better yet,
WHY, to some, DOES IT MATTER!?
If You disagree with me
OK.
If You agree with me
OK.
Either option should be without
ego, right?
I am bedeviled
by energies
on both sides of the fence
slapping me awake
from a muddled nap
and indolent dreaming

Mars at Jupiter's End
(a contrapuntal poem)
Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity,
Gigantic and majestic reigns supreme,
While Mars, the Bringer of War,
Echoes in the distance like a dream.
Perhaps it’s the giant’s breathtaking presence,
That portrays such power and magnitude,
Yet in the shadows there’s a coming resonance,
Personified by a fierce and ferocious attitude.
But at the end of Jupiter’s glorious suite,
There’s a sweet and explosive harmony,
The brutal Mars bars percussive attack,
All come together, deafening and artfully.

Sweet Oblivion
It just so happened that day
I had swallowed oblivion
My neck bent at obscene angle
Prevented uvula from any good intent
My eyes round with belladonna
Had stared longingly
Towards someplace lovely
And in the safe distances
Outside myself and the dirty wall
Outside of a house made of cards
Beyond black walls of grinning Jacks
Somewhere inside the celestial body of grace
There, existed love
Existed family
Existed Man bound by God's good covenant
And existed pardon by that same God
And so in that happenstance ...

Shivering to Stay Warm
1/30
blindly searching
for light left behind,
inhaling all of the moonbeams
and every speck of stardust;
greedily, I’ve devoured whole
every empty promise
the rainbows brought
(throwing them in for good measure);
I hold them all inside my chest,
still waiting for the sun to return
from his hiding place
among the shadows;
shivering to stay warm
limbs frozen stiff with need
Unique Word Count: 52

Warming Her Pearls (A Pearl Moon))
Your love was a pearl
never to be found.
In its shell, the heart of everything
is never fully round.
The full moon was a pearl
of yours, of mine,
of worlds shared in sleep.
You were a secret I'd always keep:
Mistress, watching over me;
white wings, white shoulders,
still as solemn passions
running deep.
The world and I do
covet you, beautiful she;
milky and full, her love
burning away the aches I keep.
Slow and steady,
persistent and deep;
My longing for her

ISOLATION
Words bubble up
To form a membrane,
Keeping burned patches
Of the soul
From drying out.
On your own
You dress
And wrap them-
Firm but gentle,
Tape it tight.
It’s inevitable-
We end up hurt
And confused
In these times
Of isolation,
Called upon
To be the nurse
In the emergency room,
To take things
One trauma at a time
With no promise
Of forgetful
Camaraderie
At the end
Of the day.
To form a membrane,
Keeping burned patches
Of the soul
From drying out.
On your own
You dress
And wrap them-
Firm but gentle,
Tape it tight.
