all that matters
in the end
the only real
question will
be
not how you
died
but
how did you
live
the only real
question will
be
not how you
died
but
how did you
live

Diagnosis
My illness is recurrent mania,
not in DSM or the ICD,
it has to be within the book, you see,
I always seem to see utopia.
Whilst you struggle with your dystopia
what, perhaps, we’ll best call reality,
I soon lose touch with mine and get happy
what the doctor may call euphoria.
The outlook doesn’t look too fine just now
that doesn’t mean you must be low in mood
(I know this hospital outside of Slough!)
but understand my laughter is not rude.
I laugh at this mad world; it laughs at me.

DARQ (Death and Redemptive Qualities)
(Intro track from a new spoken word poetry album I’m working on. The album is called “DARQ”…)
Am I Cheating Death or Is Death Cheating Me?
Am I alive or just surviving
Waking up and going through the motions
I breathe, my heart beats
Yet I suffocate beneath the surface
Earning my share of the air in my lungs
Everything is mortgaged
I wager time and bid on my dreams
I take the risk of delays against the hope of an un-promising tomorrow
Can dimmer futures house within the light of brighter days ahead
In this world overcast...

Painted like death
My life is full of ladies that are painted like death
And if they ever got the chance they'd probably lay me to rest
And if I ever got the chance I'd probably pay them respect
My life is full of the thing that brings babies their breath
Stranger than it seems I sing the craziest guess
Of what my life may mean I seem elated at best
My life is full of dreams that are too vain to confess
The Cockroach King I stay related to pests
And we gon eat the whole thing with still some saved for our guests
My death is full of maybe if I don't stay may I be...

unrepentant wisdom
a rhymed, mirrored octet with a coda
the
poem
unwritten,
battling darkness,
languishing for light,
unrepentant w i s d o m
that could heal a broken world!
let its lyrics fill the pages
of inconsequential sages;
let its eloquence unfold
in the verseless kingdom
of this sultry night.
for the starkness
full smitten,
solemn,
free
the
poem
unwritten.

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 9
april song 29—all my love
frivolity doth not attend true love
that hath his own integrity to prove,
though all the world may crumble in the wake
of pledges that his humble soul doth make.
adam knew eve, as romeo juliet,
whose happy sleep was pale death’s sobriquet.
what tho i pledge my body to be burnt,
scant, still, the wisdom all my wits have learnt;
for human sacrifice falls short of breadth,
to substitute for love that knows no depth.
when i surrender all my love to God,
no glory find i in life’s blind façade.

april songs (Theme 3): attitudes of life 6
april song 26—all my wealth
the crumbs of earth shall scatter at my feet,
should i ignore one who has nought to eat.
king lazarus shall walk on dives’ head,
if penury should leave the poor man dead.
for all my wealth is worth no more than trash,
though i may think it gives me great panache.
what is a life lived for myself alone,
while yet i leave the other man undone?
should he go naked, while i drape my robes
about me, blinding out the eye that probes?
for soon enough those very fingertips
may have to whet these parched...

Delusions of Grandeur
Lost between attention and recognition
We can’t see where we’re going because we’ve sold our vision
When cries become substitutes to sell scars for significance
Faking progress when we’re handicapped of our ignorance
Convenience consumers buying platforms in place of mountain tops
When status is our hindrance
Fad love is currency, what happens when the money stops
After we’ve lost touch with our fingerprints
Our purposes and gifts in the hands of our reckless confessions
Following the carrot for the fools gold of vain obsessions ...

Finding Purpose
It’s what matters most
What motivates us and pushes us to go forward
As we go about our daily lives
Listening to that inner voice
Calling to us…
It’s the internal compass that drives us
From ordinary every day decisions
To those significant and important milestones
Tipping points and shifting paradigms
Where building a more secure foundation
Becomes the priority
It’s the sense of duty laid out before us
Committed and steadfast
So that the intrinsic rewards gives us the fuel
To keep sailing through the hardships...

Purpose for Poets
Make disciples of all men
so I’m writing again
Social influencers take note:
better than a vote
That’s your great commission:
poetry with a mission

Yearning
I’ve wondered a thousand wishes
For they’ve been numbered,
like God counts the stars
Within each wish, is but a tiny thought
Original or not
They rest in me, I sleep beside them
I’ve called a thousand wishes to the stand
Lined them up like an executioner positions their criminal prey
To ask each one their name. They have a name.
Silence is a scream to me, those are intrusive thoughts I try to discard.
They never want to leave, and even when the seconds pass, they barge back in
I’ve begged a thousand wishes
