death of a songbird.
I dwell upon the bluebird,
and the need to set it free
can you hear the quiet serenade?
chirping it's whiskey melody
O' shhh you caroling songster
deeply buried surrounded by silence
hidden from the dayward light
lest her ne'er-do-wells seed violence
I strain to hear the bluebird
unknown in love only cheap salvation
devotional thrive by five and dime
the kind...

The rain she heaves as if she knows
I need to watch from the window,
my mind gives no hoots
to the body's pain, I've always been that way.
Thinking beyond here lately - of gifting
something all together, full bodied and rich with worthiness
to the ether, my daughter, to you and I.

As night slow-gestures from my prose,
There’s nothing I know that comes close;
The second dumpster to the right,
And straight on till the morning light.
There’s no sunrise can shed its night,
A sunset in the throes of flight,
That holds a promise near in debt,
A mutt that shakes its fur of wet.
As envied as the honored vet:
He’s known by other prison con
As zip code two four six O one,

We last left the two Hell-mates, Bukowski and Douglas, fighting each other fiercely.But the intrusion of the young poet changes things...
YOUNG POET (off stage) Hey Bukowski, I have a hot beer for you!

BUKOWSKI IN HELL --A One Act Play
I wrote this one-act in 2002. It's never been produced and I doubt ever will be, because there's a certain moratorium by the Bukowski Estate on Bukowski related works.
This play, employing a non-realistic treatment, attempts to offer a look at some of Charles Bukowski's inner struggles and triumphs.
