Stole Geronimo
Stole Geronimo for skull n bones
Scouting for food and shelter
A horse stands up on red rocks
Feathers hide dangerous dreams
Living on the land of fruit of plenty
Birds scatter lightning is coming
Thunder of the Four Horsemen
Dirt kicks out under their shoes
Feel a steal a coming
Take land that is theirs
Slaughter innocent children n women
So I take any scalp I can carve
They steal our land and claim American
Geronimo is an American King

I Pledge Allegiance to the Disco Ball
I've asked for some things for my new classroom
and have gotten some of them.
I haven't gotten the extra bookshelf.
Or the Post It chart paper.
Or an American flag,
large or small.
Instead
when the vice principal
leads the Pledge over the PA system
my class and I face the blue disco ball
I got for $5 at Five Below.
We really like it.
I believe in sparkly objects
that catch and amplify light.
I believe in beauty.
It's a great icy blue color.
I believe in my country
minus the guns, ...
and have gotten some of them.

An observation at a coffee shop
With God,
Makeup,
and disposable cups
all things are possible.

EXPATRIATION TO UNKNOWN DESTINATION
Pumping my brakes; taking a pause for the cause
A reprieve from the game framed by 48 laws
Where the stars and stripes unite upon a tattered flag
The land of milk and honey where many chase the bag
Rags to riches are the wishes of the populous
Soul selling while running after IN GOD WE TRUST
Lust causing bust when they play their hands
Dying while trying to change nicks & dimes to bands
Cause the land has quick sand in inconspicuous places
And labyrinths full of rats desiring to win their races
With hatemongering racist...

Unite In Love
What the hell is wrong with this world?
Hate for others seems to rise like an exploding volcano.
Politicians at each other's throats.
Can't make decisions together.
Can't agree on things together.
Too busy thinking of what benefit's their party.
All that was heard of in 2021.
Administration leaving innocents behind.
Frustrations mounting in house and at the border.
Has this world lost its ability to love one another?
Come together and think of those innocents, crisis that loom here and now.
Deeply disturbing this all is no matter the side...

Bibs: A love story
Here and there he snuck in a word or two,
a partial sentence sometimes on big days when the scene played itself out in public,
The Walmart auto section clientele got a glimpse of who he truly was.
Necessity had bred his personality.
Expressed emotion was but a hiccup.
Most days he spent his time up in his nuts,
Brooding over the deliberate misuse of sugar in coffee and cream the color of his high school biology teacher.
He had failed the class.
Black coffee would not tempt any fate other than the one...

Donner Pass
Eighteen hundred and forty-six
A little late in the spring
Migrating toward the setting sun
was a real fashionable thing
You've heard about Lansford Hastings?
He wrote an emigrant's guide
To encourage movement westward
and get folks across the divide
He'd exaggerate this shortcut
that runs through some rugged terrain
It's inaccurate at best
and crippled at least one campaign
There was an agenda at work
and a population to grow
There was this story to conjure
about a party we should know
Brothers George...

American football and stupidity
Invent a game about hitting people,
then make rules against ways to hit people.

If I taught in Louisiana
If I taught in Louisiana
you best believe I'd know the score,
I post the ten commandments in Hebrew
and hang a mezuzah by the door
The kids could sit on a pentagram rug
in the lotus position if they choose,'
Unitarian talks and Pagan rites
with inclusion you can't lose
The next mandate is not hard to guess:
Trump's picture on the wall
a breaker of every commandment
the irony lost on each and all
Talk of separation of church and state
would only be met with anger and hate
should I be forced to hang doctrine...

Amtrak Senryu
no train from Phoenix
just Maricopa
that is a joka
in America
so many bullets
but no bullet trains
Vistaliner, yes
see great scenery
redeeming feature
talk of modern trains
like Europe and Asia
'bout freaking time
another delay
Smokey Robinson playing
tracks of my tears
Amtrak derailments
frequent as my thoughts
both aging systems

High Upon Stone
Ice cracked bones
Heart made of stone
The statue sits upon its throne
All alone birds tend
Her loneliness
Heeding her muted cries
Within is a heart
That could never lie
Outside a body and face
That shall never die
Heart made of stone
The statue sits upon its throne
All alone birds tend
Her loneliness
Heeding her muted cries
Within is a heart
That could never lie

I am afraid of what my Husband has become
He has drained all of my resources
And makes me work day to night
I can’t escape because the money
He takes funds a genocide
He has control over my body
And what I may or may not do
He poisons my food and water
And feeds me prescriptions until I’m blue
He sent our child to school
Knowing the teacher is armed and loaded
There is no place to go where
His morality hasn’t folded
He’ll silence me completely
If I do not stand up now
...
