The Smallest Spaces

Gently,
by your wet umbrella
we pause at the creak of a board
Trapped hurt holding breath
in the cupboard under the stairs
the terror of carelessness
giggles overheard

In semi darkness
a rogue wave forms
hits the beach
tearing buttons in a moment
frenzy foaming on cresting eye
Impossible positions beckon
our fumbles a threesome with the hoover
we can't ignore
now the time for dares is over

Outside,
while the party dies
'Albatross' on vinyl softly storms
fuelling flights of fancy
with fresh ripe fruit
and woozy wine

Only I,
knew the bruise on your thigh
fading secretly 'till now
the sweetest salt stolen
to be devoured with our slice
of forever

And poor Sean,
would have killed us
if he'd known
how tightly you held that door
to shut out unwanted worlds
then calmly fixed your hair
blaming it all
on Tequila
